Years ago (1970’s?) when Mike was just kept in a cage, some Tulane students on a football weekend, surreptitiously unlocked his cage and he got out. It was the dead of night and when found, Mike was still close by on South Stadium, sharpening his claws on one of the recently landscaped pine trees which was bending under his weight. It is a good thing he wasn’t hungry.

The cadets used to shoot the canon pregame and it was never a problem.
And I heard the fireworks issue from a friend who worked with Mike VI and Dr. Baker. They were adamant it started with the first time the fireworks went off. Dr. Baker pleaded with Alleva to cut the fireworks, and he said no.
So Baker made the call to stop bringing him if he was going to be subjected to that every time.

And since he isn’t there any more and we have a new AD, sounds like we can send Mike back out there. I wouldn’t want to see grown men cry because let Mike back out there though. They are already crying enough as it is.

We need to send him back out there. To all of the PETA people, it’s not like we are throwing a bulldog in his cage whenever we play Georgia.

Happened again in the 80’s. During Thanksgiving break. Mike mauled a young tree and a was captured in Bernie Moore stadium. Don’t know if he was lured there or what but everyone was very lucky that night.

You could build an a/c sound proof glass cage. They have white tigers in the Mirage casino in Vegas 24/7. That’s pretty damn disturbing for the cats.
