Sorry I am not 75 years old. From what I hear and read Cassanova was the ish, but I have serious doubts about him being a better player than Peterson. Greater impact on a team, maybe but not better at locking down a reciver or returning kicks.
wow, just wow.

Some kids love to show just how stupid they are. I'm not 75 either, in fact like you I wasn't around when Cassanova played. But every die hard football fan I know that saw Cassanova play say he's the best Tiger ever. This is from people who have watched every LSU game over the past 50 years. The most common quote that sticks out to me is they all say he's the greatest "athlete" that ever played at LSU.
So yea, there's a good chance he's a better player than Patrick Peterson.

I did not get to see Cassanova play, either, but even if you discount his collegiate accomplishments - LSU's only 3-time first team All-American - look at his multiple Pro Bowl career in the NFL. I have no idea who is better, but I do think there is a tendency to automatically discount players from previous generations.

Stovall and Cassanova are 2 of the top 5 best players in Tiger history. I'm not 75 either but I did see both of them play and they were almost always the best players on the field. Stovall's not winning the Heisman is a travesty.

Neither anywhere close to Top 25 in LSU history

Justin Vincent. One of the most productive running backs in LSU history was also the MVP of the 2003 BCS National Championship Game.

Also NPPNC (No Patrick Peterson No Care)

I am stupid based on a subjective question? Thanks. I just feel that Peterson's athleticism makes him a better player (I am not talking about productivity at LSU but the best football player to come from the school). They are both around the same size. I feel like Cassanova probably hit harder being a safety, but I would think Peterson's speed would put him over the top as the better player.

No Allen Faneca. That guy doesn't know much about LSU football players

Is that writer on crack.

I'm not 75, either, but I know Casanova 1) led LSU in RUSHING as a freshman,2) moved to defense where he was concensus All American for two yrs; 3) was a terror on punt returns (including two against Ole Miss for TDs in the same game)and 4) was a favorite for the Heismann til injured in his Senior year.

This list is horrible. I'm 54 and did see Casonova play along with all of em since 1968. Tommy C has to be top 5.

quote:Thank you. I've been reaading this thread wondering when/if anyone would mention him.
What really puzzles me is that no one has mentioned Roy Winston belongs on ANY such list.
eta: And how could anyone leave Casanova off any LSU list??

Beau,
You and I are the only one's to mention the Moon Man.
Yet Winston had 15 yrs in the pros and is considered by some to be in the top 10 all time LB's.
Larry Csonka would sure agree!

Matt Mascona just went off on this list during his show, pretty funny stuff.
