Well I looked on the website and it appears he has the "interim" tag on his title; so assuming the school doesn't pull another football hire, they will do an external search and maybe hire during the year.
Full disclosure, I know nothing about music or the operations of the band, and I mean no disrespect to those who have been put in charge; but I would hope the school has higher standards than just putting two people, that by all accounts from their bios, have only ever directed high school bands before. I mean a band the caliber and tradition of GBFTL should have some of the most experienced and best in the country leading them.

I don’t expect LSU to do a proper search for a new director for TGBFTL. The School of Music wants someone who will look the other way while they continue to steal money from Tiger Band.

As usual you hate on the LSU band... I will wait and see
FYI, when I was a principal at a 6A high school in Texas, I hired a new band director from a 2A school and since then, he moved on up to getting his doctorate and is now the assistant director at Purdue, one of the best bands in the country.
So instead of bitching so much, let's give the interim a chance and if it works, great, and if not, then let's clean house.

The glory days of Tiger Band are over and won't be coming back anytime soon as long as the school of music has Tiger Band on lock down. Not even attempting a national search for a new director is such a disgrace.
Don't expect much from Tiger Band this year. It'll be another small weak sounding band that won't even be heard in most of the stadium and will be blown away by opposing bands. Don't even bother trying to hear the pep band they bring to Austin

I'm OK with this approach (let's give the interim a chance) at a small school. Small schools are where you give "unproven" employees a chance. LSU is NOT a small school. LSU is in the national spotlight every year. Hiring an unproven at LSU is unacceptable.
BTW.....did you watch any of those videos? Really??? Is that the "skill set" we want to lead the LSU Band?

If he did a good job at the 2A school, then you have proven my point.

We used to have one of the best bands in the country, now it’s fair to middling. Really sad what’s happened.

This.
Not only was she a good director, she was a little hottie back in the day.
Now she's the Associate Director of the School of Music at Illinois:
quote:
Dr. Linda R. Moorhouse currently serves as Professor of Music and Associate Director of the School of Music. She also holds an appointment in the Bands Division and is a member of the conducting faculty. Prior to her current position, she served as Interim Director of Bands at the University of Illinois and taught graduate and undergraduate conducting, and wind band history.
Before joining the University of Illinois School of Music in fall 2010, Dr. Moorhouse served on the faculty at Louisiana State University for over 20 years, where she was the recipient of LSU School of Music and several campus-wide awards for teaching excellence. While at LSU, she taught conducting, directed the LSU Symphonic Winds, and served as drill designer, auxiliary choreographer, co-director and teacher of record of the LSU Tiger Marching Band, one of a select few award-winning college marching bands in Division I universities. Under her leadership, the LSU Tiger Band received the Sudler Trophy (the "Heisman trophy" of college marching bands), and won the 2008 ESPN "Battle of the Bands" contest. She also served as director and administrator of the LSU Summer Music Camps.

Unbelievable that we would let that talent get away.

I was at the Texas A&M game and I couldn’t even hear what song you guys are talking about.
It isn't even a song. It's two notes a tritone apart for maximum dissonance. The band played it all last year every time the other team was deep in the north side of the field.

I heard it in the opposite upper deck at Auburn. Hopefully, it is gone.

Was Oregon a better opportunity or was he run off? Is the new (not so new) guy permanent, or are they looking for a replacement?
It's a promotion to director of bands. Hardly being "run off".

It’s heartbreaking what this program has become since we were there. I love LSU and TB with all my heart. It hurts seeing it go down the shitter like this.

Well we certainly know how to get a song taken off the band's playlist don't we?
Time for another vulgar chant.
