Dude, those videos are from 10 years ago.

Yes. He has basically been in school for 7-8 years. His ONLY band director job was at West Feliciana HS. These are the videos HE posted (I guess he is proud or has nothing better to post). This is from his bio....
"He is the former band director at West Feliciana High School in St. Francisville, Louisiana. At WFHS, he led an active, comprehensive music program that produced numerous award-winning performances at state and national events, including the 2013 United States National Presidential Inauguration Music Festival in Washington DC."
So, the question is, how does he get the director position at LSU with those videos plus 8 years of school as your resume?

I hope you are kidding.
Vandy.....meaningless game. The full band should be going to Alabama or Auburn.

it is so embarrassing that the full band isn't going to Texas and Alabama. Auburn is a home game so the odds are high the full band will be there

I wouldn't go that far. The kids get to experience Nashville. But yeah, I'm sure they're doing Nashville because the tickets are so cheap.

Talley and I have corresponded and talked in person about Tiger Band many times. He appreciates TGBFTL and recognizes its power, importance, and potential.

Damon Talley is a gaping vagina.

Golden girls are always appreciated but embarrassing when you can’t here the band and the other school drags out twice the members and sounds good. A big full stadium requires a big band. No one cares how well they play individually. We would like to hear the band. I believe it will lead to more piped in music that will eventually alleviate the need for the band?

LSU needs to mic the band sometimes so they can be heard over the crowd. It’s a shame it’s come to that, but I can barely hear them anymore.

They tried that a couple years ago. It was awful, especially in the south end zone. The sound from the mics would be played over the speaker and hit almost instantaneously, but the sound of the “actual” band was delayed and would be about a second late. It sounded like 2 bands with one playing slightly behind the other.

Then they need to nix more of the woodwinds in favor of more brass instruments. They are very weak-sounding in the stands. It was embarrassing hearing UCF’s band drown out Tiger Band at the Fiesta Bowl.

Things will only get worse as long as Talley and Queen are in charge. Talley was the director at a school that did NOT have football or a marching band. Yet, they hired him to run the whole show. Dean Queen is an opera guy! What in the hell is LSU doing?

I don’t necessarily have an issue with an Opera guy running the SoM. But, there needs to be someone with a strong marching band background running the Band department. These current folks don’t really understand how much TGBFTL is a “face of the university”. They’re running it as though it’s just another part of the SoM, no different than wind ensemble, orchestra, etc.For Queen, it was a matter of finding a way to control the funds tigerband received.

Irish,

Honest question: is the band really worse than it was when you were (I assume) in it? If so, what do you base this on? If you are comfortable, I’d be curious to hear when you marched in TB.

THIS is what Talley and the school of music wanted as the DIRECTOR of Tiger Band! Makes me sick.

Lol, you’re always such a hater. What exactly would you like the Tiger Band to look like? Because with Llinas at the helm, it looked as close to the Linda days as it ever has.

To be fair, aren't there fewer brass now? I remember when I was younger the band had what, maybe close to 32 tubas? It's nowhere near that now. It also looks like the rest of the brass sections have decreased. The band sure isn't as loud as it used to be.

Tiger Band under Llinas was a shell of its former self under Wickes and Linda M.

brass from 178 to 130 = much less sound. But the quality of sound is second to none.
