They built it during the time when others were transitioning to even better stadiums. Just didn't look far enough into the future like others did. They missed an opportunity.

1)Price gouging beer
2)Chairbacks all the way around
3)New batters eye with camera booth built in
4)Bullpens behind fence in left and right center
5)Berm/party deck with beer booths exc beyond the bullpens

Im ok with a berm for those that just want to bull shite. But lets face it, we are in La, we will tear it up.

I also dont mind the bleachers at all.

LSU went cheap, surprising, I know, and it shows. It’s such a boring, generic stadium. I actually hate it.

It is not as loud and intimidating as the Old Box and I blame this on the design of the stadium. The stands are too far away from the field and they are too slanted so that they don’t hold in the noise. Plus the bleachers are crappy. When they built it they went on the cheap. When other programs tried to pass us up it was easy for them to do so.

Bleachers have to be more comfortable than sitting on a berm.

I mean there are several ways you can do it. Mississippi State has built in seating. Arkansas and Ole Miss let you bring in lawn chairs. You don't have to make everyone sit on blankets like it's a picnic.

I think a lot of issues with the new box is the nostalgia people have with the old box

I had some interaction with JJ during the season. When asked about the field design, he said he doesn't like bullpens on the field. Had similar in Arizona his first year and changed it. I expect the bullpens to be moved as part of a future project that will hopefully remove the bleachers and add something more pleasing in the outfield areas.

JJ also said his #1 want (that will happen next) is an indoor infield to be added on the side of the batting cage/weight room. Based on 2022 fielding percentage, I'd say a good investment in the future.

Don't stop there. Get rid of bleachers all together.

LSU needs a LFL of their own, but instead of grills, equip each rig with a boiler

This doesn't make a lot of sense. There's not a ton of room for an entire infield over there, especially when they are about to move the bullpens. Would this be a turf field?

They didn’t even just use bleachers. The cheap fricks used the same bleachers from the old box

Let me introduce you to Skip Bertman. In his mind bleachers mean more buts in seats and more tickets. They can’t sell season tickets to a berm. The box was built as cheap as possible to squeeze as much money out as possible.

I like it but I’m not picky and I do wish it had an area dedicated to tailgating near the field. Finally, I think most of the high rankings are based on glory days of yesteryear.

Players and coaches across college baseball love the Box. The playing facilities, game ops staff, field crew, surface, etc are all top notch.

What happens is fans - LSU fans - see these newer nicer stadiums with all the fancy new amenities and LSU doesn't really compare. We don't have a berm / landing, we have way too many non-chairbacks, etc.

Like others have said... old Box was pretty plain as well, and when Skip had the new Box designed... he leaned heavy on the tradition of the old Box.

Skip built new Box as a baseball stadium for baseball players... not as an entertainment venue for fans.

We are coming up on 15 years in the new Box. I would like LSU to look at improvements / updates.

I want to bitch slap whoever thought the bleachers was a good idea. Holy shite I wonder if the architect ever even sat a day in Louisiana heat.

It’s fine. Problem is, other schools have built better stadiums in recent years, so “fine” is falling behind.

From the MSU website:
quote:

DNF QUICK FACTS Seating: approx. 7,200 (4,316 chairback seats; 180 skybox seats, approx. 2,700 bleacher seats) Capacity (largest crowd:14,991 (4/22/89 vs. Florida --- NCAA on-campus record) Dimensions: LF: 330, LC: 376, CF: 390, RC: 374, RF: 326 Batter's eye: 20 feet high, 44 feet wide Outfield fence: Six-foot padded chain link fence

It seems that DN has bleacher seats. It seems they have a lot of seating that’s not “fixed”. There’s no doubt it’s a great venue, but not because every seat is chairback, or it has a great berm. Their left field lounge and their condo deal make it unique.
