Expanding the field accomplishes dick except maybe getting others hurt.

I've seen this argument made multiple times. Yet, there are 24 teams that make the playoffs in the FCS, and no one seems to bitch about that. It's still football. Still the same risk of injuries. But more teams actually get a shot each year instead of the same 4 teams getting 17 of the 24 playoff spots in 6 years.

ETA: North Dakota State will likely play a 16 game schedule this year if they make the title game. If one of the teams not seeded 1 to 8 were to make the National Title game, they would play 17.

Acadiana High is going to play 15 games this year, but ya'll are bitching about some college kids having to play 1 or 2 more than that?

great idea, lets do like basketball and expand it to 64 teams. Like you said, there would be some upsets that would knock some better teams out the tournament.
Great games like LSU vs Utah St, Ohio St. vs Ole Miss, Clemson vs San Diego St, Oklahoma vs Tulane. Good Point

If the top 4 seeds hosted the first round game, I could get excited for one more game in Tiger Stadium.

I like 6-8 with the wildcard format. Make it like the NFL where the top seeds get a bye and home field, closer to home advantage.

We don't need college players having 16 games.

Go back to 11 games.

Wish we could fluctuate based on the year. Say one there were 5-6 teams at either 12-0 11-1, we could expand to wildcard play in just for that year.

I've always been for at least an 8-team playoff, but this shows it would be a waste this year.

It would be a waste almost every year

It would diminish the excitement of the regular season and bowl season outside of the playoff would be horrid

The 3 pointer is an equalizer in college basketball

There is no equalizer for being severely out manned in college football

The problem with all of this is most of the NCAA plays a 10-11 game tournament throughout the year. It’s called conference play and championship. If you don’t win your conference you shouldn’t play for an NCAA championship period.

Use the conference champions and rank them rest based on non-conference wins. Chose one at large and play a 6 team playoff. Problem solved. If you are at large and you have an issue play a better schedule.

This way if you want to play an easy schedule OOC like Alabama that is fine but you won’t get a bye in the playoffs. It incentivized non-conference games and keeps the conference championships relevant.

all 4 teams in the CFP are conference champions. But what about years where there are two teams that are clearly 2 of the best 4 teams in the country. You really want to put a crappy conference champ from a crappy conference in above one of them?

Except they would put a G5 team (Memphis this year) in 1of the P5 spots.

Basketball is a far cry from football in terms of logistics required to have such a playoff. The whole idea of the CFP was supposed to be finding the top two teams in the country and getting them together to play. The BCS came close, but there were some years when it was hard to determine who the best two teams actually were.

With the CFP as it currently is, I'm pretty certain that the top two teams are included among the four that are include and the top team will emerge. That's how it was sold to college football.

Yes. How can you tell me that you aren’t even the best team in your league but you get a chance to play the game to be the best team in the country. It doesn’t make sense.

I wouldn’t want LSU to be in the playoffs as the SEC runner up.

I'm a fan of expanded playoffs, because of one reason... Since we have gone to a four team, the number 1 team has yet to won the whole thing. I think LSU changes that this year, but that means somebody who wasn't the favorite to win just so happened to win it all... Every year so far.

6 team is the most I would do
Reward the top 2 seeds with bye *must be conference champ to be a 1 or 2

1) LSU bye
2) Ohio state bye

3) Clemson 6) Oregon
4) Oklahoma 5) Georgia

1 plays lowest winning seed

PS Bama will be in every single year unless they lose 2 games

Then teams like Clemson or Bama will REALLY never schedule anyone with a pulse.

Regular season games would lose huge value IMO

Unless there’s byes to play for

24 team playoff. FCS can figure out how to make it work, so there's no reason FBS schools can't. Can't really use class as an excuse since students are out on winter break for most of December and early January.
