Reductio ad absurdum....nice

I don't speak based upon which words YOU are "tired" of.

And aren't we surprised by a handful of those teams every year?

Yes. And, That is an entirely different thing. I love college world series...I am not advocating for a "loser's bracket" in football just because i LIKE it in baseball. Silliness

That is basically a full NFL schedule for the two teams that make a final (assuming they made the conference champ game)

So lets just cancel the regular season and make it one big tournament so everyone gets a sucker. NO, they don't. You finish undefeated in regular season, you deserve a chance at the title.

If they had 2 losses?

Or if they lost a conference championship game by almost 4 TDs?

No I wouldn't.

8 teams would be awful.

Yes it was, YA.

You know damn well you would be campaigning to expand it if LSU was ranked 5-8

Exactly.. Nobody here cares about this right now, because LSU hasn’t been left out in a season they would’ve had a chance to win the title.. Personally, I think 8 is the magic number.. Get the five P5 champs in, and three at large bids..

What about the players
Do they really need to play an extra impact game and risk injury for teams that really didn't earn a shot during the normal course of the season

STOP THE AT LARGE CRAP.
Beyond 4 usually there is a HUGE drop in talent.
If you want to add meaning to #1 and #2 ...go to 6 w 1 and 2 getting a bye.

TAKE THE HUMANS OUT .. use the BCS formula to pick them.
should have learned from the Coaches and AP Polls

...just because the win a conference does not mean they should get in
...just because the have a brand name as in Notre Dame does not mean they should get in.

Oklahoma vs Georgia would be a fun one to see. They match up well.

If the at large were ranked more appropriately, the following would make it interesting:
- Alabama
- Auburn
- Florida
- Georgia

Yes, we’ve beaten each of them but IMO, each and any of these teams match up well with the rest of the field.

The playoff was birthed so that the #3 team wouldn't get screwed if undefeated. No one gives a shite about #4 except they are interpreted as week and an easier opponent. Expanding the field accomplishes dick except maybe getting others hurt.

So, what? There is a reason Dr's don't perform delicate surgery on loved ones, jurors are screened for personal experience with the trial facts at hand, etc.

The LEAST persuasive argument is "if YOU were personally affected...you'd want it another way"

ok

I hate the idea of an 8 team playoff. In no way shape or form would I be clamoring for an 8 team playoff if LSU got beaten by the SEC champion twice or finished with 2 losses and lost to an unranked team that didnt make a bowl game. I guess you know me better than I do.

It would make the regular season, in large part, irrelevant.

ETA - we essentially had an 8 team playoff this year. UGA could've gotten in by beating LSU. They didnt.

Baylor could have gotten in by beating Oklahoma. They didnt.

Utah could have gotten in by beating Oregon. They didnt.

"Don't play the sport because it's too dangerous"

Super Bowl teams play what, 19-20 games? And they have 25 less players on their team.

What a pussy line of thinking.

If they were top 8 at the end of the season, did they really not earn it? Do the #16 teams in March Madness "deserve" to play in March Madness every year?

I think this is the correct analysis of why we are where we are, and this year perfectly illustrates the rationale for it.

It’s amazing how people are bitching about expanding past 4 teams, when the FCS Division 1 has been having a 16 team playoff forever. As a matter of fact, every division has an expanded playoff system, but for this ancient Corporate backed and influenced “playoff” for the FBS. The same frickers that have been making money off this bullshite bowl system and “playoff” are the same ones making it today.

It’s the only trophy that is not awarded with the wooden NCAA one. Think about that shite. The NCAA has sold out and outsourced the FBS to corporate entities. Why is it ok to have expanded playoffs in every other division and sport? The fricking NCAA March Madness tournament has 64 plus 4 more to play in. So 4 is the best we can do for the FBS right? It’s because of the ancient system put in place by individuals that don’t want things to change. It’s all bullshite.

The most teams that have really ever deserved a say is 3. However, Ohio State won as a 4 seed so I guess that’s the exception.

Some years there’s a clear 2. It all seems unnecessary.

Honestly, Clemson getting in on their schedule is a joke.

Should just be LSU vs Ohio State.

Hell, LSU was so good this year, they should just cancel the playoffs and crown LSU right now.
