The Play When I Realized NOTHING Was Going To Change: 4th and 1 2nd Q

This was the play that did it for me. This was the play I knew we were doomed and all the crap we heard about how things would change was all a lie.

4th and 1, under a minute before HT and we are close to midfield. I was all for going for it. As a fan, I knew we could get it and possibly pull within 3 before HT. I knew we could do it....

If we didn't call the same crap we always call. But we did. We came OUT OF A TIME OUT, lined up in the same formation we always run the toss dive out of, and ran the toss dive. When we lined up for the play, I just walked away from the TV. I knew what would happen. Wisky knew what would happen. Anyone who has watched LSU the past decade knew what would happen.

Wisky stuffed it, and promptly took the ball down the field and kicked a FG. At the end of the game, LSU loses by 2.

This was it for me. So much talent on that field, yet when we are in that situation, we run an obvious play that every team that scouts us now knows how to stop. Unreal.

That's when it hit me: NOTHING WILL CHANGE. This will be one of the most talented football teams we will ever have. I expect five years from now there will be plenty of guys on this 2016 team playing on Sunday. They will have plenty to show for their pro careers, but their college career will consist of mid tier bowls and November collapses.

Why?

Because nothing will ever change. The script is written for 2016 and it is the same script we have seen over and over. That script has won a lot of games, but over time, teams figure out that script and turn it on us. (Did you like how Wisky ran a counter play five times in a row on us and our new "genius" DC that once coached that very team couldn't stop it?). Yeah, the script has completely turned on us. We won't adapt. We can. We have the talent, but we won't.

4th and 1, game 1 of the season, and the story is already almost complete.

Oh well.

Miles runs plays and appears to believe that as long as you execute, it doesn't matter what the defense does.

To me it seems that it's more important to Les to have an identity than it is to win.

For me it was the first offensive play. Another damned toss dive.

Things are like they are because people got what they wanted. Now they can sulk in the glory of Miles

There was no reason to go for it. It was a stupid decision. We had no control of the LOS and there was nothing good going to come out of it. ( we weren't suddenly going to get 30 more yards for the FG attempt).

Just take the 3-0 deficit into half, be glad its not worse, and regroup with the ball to start the second half.

I was screaming at my TV for Les not be an idiot.

You're right though, if you're going to go for it, that was a bad play call.

Yep we have a head coach that is totally clueless about today's game. At one time he did have a clue but somewhere along the way he has totally lost his ability. I would be ok with him stepping down right now. The ends will justify the means.

Kind of unbelievable that we would call a running play that puts us 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage to begin with when we only need one. Devoid of the context we've built up over time, a neutral might say "What the hell was that about?"

You know, I expected that and was perfectly OK with that call. We start EVERY game that way. Doesn't matter who we play.

It was everything after that made it clear that we were lied to. The spring game: a lie.

Recruiting all those WRs (most are transferring now): Lies

We are going to run the same 7 plays every game and we will never try anything else. We have a Super Tecmo Bowl play book.

And do it in a formation that screams "We are running it here!! Stop us!!"

Yeah, he doesn't understand the concept of creating mismatches.

When we lined up I told the Whisky fan next to me, here comes the toss dive. He said, I know. Everyone knew, what a fricking joke

Or misdirection...

Or bootlegs...

Some Play Action but there's just one or two WR routes where our QB stares down the only option...

When you have LF7, would you not trust your team to get a yard? I had no problem with that call. I honestly though the full back would get it though.

When he did call a bootleg the 2nd drive, he called it to BH's left!!....which means his shoulders take longer to get squared & higher chance of a back foot throw.

I'll never understand this Mickey Mouse playcalling for the life of me

Any misdirection and we run for days.

Any read option everyone will follow LF7 and QB can run the other way untouched.

We chose to do exactly what the defense knows we are going to do. We might as well tell them. The only suspense is if we are going left or right.
