I think the 5 for 5 rule came about because of so many cases like Chambliss

The pkayers were undrafted, right? So they CHOSE to join a team as an UFA.
I think that matters, as they were not forced into the NFL. They could have stayed in school to earn degree, if not completed

So if a class of 2023 gets a medical redshirt year 1, they are on the 5-5 and they are done after next year? They don''t get an extra year for the medical redshirt under the old rules?

That's a stupid argument. At the time of the draft they had no ability to return and play college ball. Even though they new the odds were against them of making a team, why not try since at the time college wasn't available

Chambliss is a different set of rules. It’s pretty clear his is worse than kids being told they were out eligibility and then going to mini camps. Chambliss is over here trying to get a school to lie for him and they wouldn’t, he also lost all of his cases until they found an ole miss alum and season ticket holder. That is a far worse thing for the sport than some kids getting 5 for 5.
The ole miss judge is far worse than the one Texas tech found, at least he was man enough to not cry while reading his ruling.

he got two redshirts years, one a medical redshirt. I thought that is what redshirt years were for....some type of injury. But once you exhausted your redshirt, you were out of luck....unless you get a MS lawyer, OM grad to say differently. The truth is Chambliss getting a 6th year is a much bigger fallacy than returning players who were not giving a 5th year option contrary to the present rule. NCAA is such a stupidly led organization.

Chambliss tested the waters and realized that he was not going to get drafted high enough to sign a contract with guaranteed money. His agents were absolutely talking to NFL teams to figure this out.
