What was your preseason expectations smart guy?
All the subject matter experts who follow recruiting, NIL, the transfer portal and talent evaluation were forecasting a middle of the pack SEC finish.
That was the expectation. Did you forecast last in the SEC?
Link me to someone that accurately predicted a last place finish please. I’ll take a knee if you can.
If you can’t, then it’s time to consider how MM greatly underperformed with the team he assembled this year.

How did Dennis Gates and Missouri bring in 9 new players and are at least competitive

And then he built the team with all of his own players talented enough to be projected for a middle of the pack finish.
How’s that working out?

I’m not supporting this dumpster fire until MM proves he can fix it and that he’s not in over his head.
I highly doubt he can.

And he’s on pace to replace them with less talented players. We’re fricked.

17th ranked recruiting class, and 3 guys that have been to the tourney MULTIPLE times. McMahon is in WAY over his head in the SEC.
Yeah people keep trying to pull the he has no players card but I remember at the time during recruiting, people were stoked and thought we wouldn’t miss a beat lol

I’m not taking up for him. Just stating facts

I agree nobody should hate McMahan. He’s doing the best he can with a shitty situation.
It isn’t his fault the administration gutted the basketball team. He seems like a good coach and solid guy, hopefully he can get us going again despite the lack of support from the higher ups in the school.

McMoribund is way over his head. He is way underperforming with the mediocre talent he has. He has used bad judgment in line up decisions. His teams are not prepared as well as they should be in the SEC. He is a good mid major coach and a below average SEC coach, IMO. His team and players have not improved over the season. In fact, they have taken major steps backwards. His recruiting is substandard.
I don't have hate for McMahon. He seems like a nice, but boring guy. His interviews are not worth the time. He is full of coach speak and gives little new information that will illuminate and teach the fan. He seems like a shrinking violet on the court matched up against the alpha dogs in the league.
What I hate is the lack of even average support for men's basketball by LSU. They give an unproven mid major coach an extremely long-term contract and a huge buyout. That show a short sightedness and an unwarranted overconfidence in the historical success of mid major coaches succeeding in the big time.
The facilities are abysmal. The practice facility is below average. The seats in the PMAC are falling apart. The manufacturer doesn't even make replacement seats for them when they break. The set up of the seating is an over 50-year-old model.
I'm guessing that we will 4 or 5 years of McMoribund (just like Johnson and Jones). The fanbase will become ambivalent about the program, except for the true basketball lovers. Dwindling seat and concession revenue as well as dwindling donations will force fat Woody to replace his ill-thought-out decision.
So, I don't have hate for McMahon. I almost feel sorry for him. He is way over his head, IMO. The good thing for him is that he is set up for life with the contract that Woody found the money to pay him.
Maybe, I will be able to improve my seat locations in the hope that an above average coach that can compete in the SEC is finally retained. I won't donate any more to the program until they prove they care about men's basketball.

As always, it's somewhere in the middle. Did we probably overrate the talent on this team? Undoubtedly. But does this team "have no good players basically." Nobody will confuse this roster with the Fab Five, but they have more than enough talent where they should have more than 2 SEC wins.
McMahon hasn't been good this year, the players haven't been good, there's plenty of blame to go around. But I don't think anyone should put the nail in McMahon's coffin just yet. Give him a chance to improve first.

Not just competitive, but 20-8 overall (8-7 SEC) and a solid tourney entry (projected 7 seed).
Contrast this year's Fighting McMahons, who recently concluded a horrendous stretch of 10 consecutive SEC games that were lost by anywhere from 10 to 40 points (median losing margin 20 pts.). That's not competitive, and for long time basketball fans like me, enough to sicken even the least squeamish.

Chemistry. That could CMM’s fault also but this LSU team just looked like just didn’t have chemistry. Maybe a few didn’t like each other? Didn’t show up until they got thru the lollipop schedule and started to get challenged by quality teams. I’m pulling for CMM hope he turns it around.

This sudden blitz of athletic department employees trying to drown out criticism signals the department believes Wade will not be receiving significant sanctions and is likely to take another job soon.

They also play an uptempo exciting brand of ball, shoot a lot of 3’s and get up and down the floor

He’s not ever going to recruit here.
