Last year's FSU game reminded me of the 7OT fiasco with Tex A&M a few years ago. Where bad calls and bad breaks cost us the game and The fAggies thought they won the super bowl. The following season we beat their asses by 50.

Last year we had a whole new staff, lost our best player on the opening drive, muffed a huge punt, had the game tying xp blocked, and had the huge disadvantage of playing a decent team that had a game under their belt. Still should have won the game. If this LSU team is as good as i think they are, we will win this game comfortably.

And yet, somehow, LSU had no offensive turnovers and committed just 4 penalties all game. So they couldn't have been THAT rusty.

Things being "new" goes well beyond turnovers and penalties. LSU had a LT playing his very first college game. A center playing center for the first time in his life. A TE playing his very first game. You also had impact players, most notably a guy who wore number 40, who played little to no snaps on defense.

There were plays on both sides of the ball the staff was almost assuredly uncomfortable calling because of everything being "new". That will not be the case this week.

quote:

"We muffed two punts. That was the difference in the game."

How so? Neither muff led to any FSU points. In fact one of them led to an FSU turnover of their own, at the LSU goal line no less. Why is this never brought up? These things work both ways.

You are right, FSU did not turn those TOs into points. But those plays don't happen in a vacuum. If LSU fields the first muffed punt they are getting the ball at their 16 yard line with ~3:00 to go in the first half. They ultimately did get the ball, at their own 8, after holding FSU off the board. But they took over the possession deep in their territory with only 1:10 to go. The down, distance, and time changes the approach.

When the second muffed punt occurred, LSU was set to get the ball with appx. 2:00 to go in a 24-17 game after a big 3rd down stop. Of note, LSU had scored TDs on their last two drives (10 and 15 plays each). Now, the muffed punt ultimately didn't have a huge effect because FSU gave up the ball and LSU did get what looked like the game tying TD. But you never know how the game plays out if the muff doesn't happen.

quote:

"LSU 'shoulda won' the game"

Sorry but this is just wrong. The reality is, LSU never lead at any point in the game after FSU took the lead early in the second quarter. Meanwhile, FSU had two separate 14 point leads and it would've been three had FSU not fumbled on the LSU goal line. In fact after the first quarter LSU never ran a single play where they could've taken the lead. But yet, somehow, they 'shoulda won'?

"Shoulda" is subjective. I agree with you that LSU "shoulda" had ZERO chance to even take the lead after the second muffed punt. Norvell should thank his lucky stars his special teams bailed him out after the terrible play call on LSU's goal line. That said, LSU did score with 0:00, and it was the 3rd straight long TD drive for an offense that was clearly clicking. On the flip side, FSU had gone 3 and out on their last two drives. Does LSU keep the momentum going in OT? Maybe

quote:

The analysis/excuses about last year's game and the predictions for this year's game are honestly laughable. Assuming there are no injuries to Jordan Travis, FSU is the better team and has the better roster. They have the most returning production in the nation. Literally #1, look it up. The most returning production, and from a team that finished top 15 in both total offense and total defense. (The only others to do that were Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia).

Harold Perkins didn't play a single defensive snap vs. FSU. Given he was one of the biggest game wreckers in college football last season, I'd say his absence was notable. Your starting LBs were Greg Penn and Mike Jones. Baskerville played limited snaps. Given he was your leading tackler last season, I'd say he was pretty important to the defense.

On offense Will Campbell was playing his very first game. Your RT, Cam Wire, was quickly benched in favor of Emory Jones after the game. You can watch Wire at Tulane now. Mason Taylor was playing his very first game at TE. I seem to recall him being a big part of the offense later in the season.

FSU is has a good roster. Of course, even in their "resurgent" season last year they still lost to everyone with a pulse not named LSU. Nonetheless, they are capable of beating LSU. But to act like the team LSU will run out there Sunday is a mirror image of the team that played FSU last year is a joke.

LSU playing under a new staff: Idk what game you were watching but LSU clearly played sloppy and anyone could tell was still getting used to a new system

Muffed two punts: whether they led to FSU points or not it basically took away two offensive drives from LSU as well as a momentum shift. If you don't understand how this effects a game idk how to explain it to you.

LSU should've won: LSU made many self inflicted mistakes and yea should've won.

I'm hopeful that your thirst for attention has been satisfied now. At least it's not the university president crying to the press about how poor their athletic department is. That was sad to watch.

You’re a wuss. Try to be subtle with your flame and not even selecting your team logo. At least be a man about it….coward.

Do you not understand how we lost two possessions out of this and FSU gained two possessions out of this? That's more time for FSU to do things on offense and less time for us. Even if they led to no points for FSU it's a big swing. The first muff for example came when Nabers lost it at our own 16 which would have given us over 3 minutes to work with at the end of the first half instead we get the ball back on our own 8 yard line with just over a minute left which is just run the clock out territory. That took a real possession away from us.

I also see you mentioned zero about us having a 29 yard FG blocked and XPA blocked which come to find out is a huge difference in a 1 point game. Yes, FSU missed a FG too, but it was a long nearly 50 yarder, so not exactly the same.

Our special teams lost the game, flat out. You cant miss the kicks we did and lose 2 muffed punts and win close games. We had no tune up game like FSU to fine tune things with a brand new offense and defense as well as the obvious flaws on special teams we had which flat out cost us the FSU game.

Since you are bringing up A&M, what happened in that game last year? You can't just look at LSU's positives and not look at any of the negatives.

we had 2 kicks blocked. would have been nice to have a tune up game for the FG unit to figure out what they were doing.

we also had a center snap the ball over our QBs head multiple times. He didn’t play center after that game. Also would have been nice to know.

And had it not been for LSU taking the first half off, LSU wins by 2 scores. See how easy that way to flip around?

Honest question since you don't want to be objective, why come to an LSU board? Are you just trying to troll because literally there is zero reason for your post here. Go to an FSU board and have these convos.

LOL tell me you don't know football without telling me. Anyone who watched that game could tell that LSU's offense wasn't on the same page and that changed over the season. LSU's offense played like shite for 3 quarters and still came back.

So make whatever excuses you want, it wont matter on sunday. Im sure you think Perkins played the whole game too and FSU just dominated him.

ETA: I hope FSU is as cocky as you are about it. Cuz that 2022 LSU team isn't taking the field.

we snapped the ball over our QBs head on 2nd and Goal.

we had a FG blocked because of a busted assignment.

we muffed a punt with 3 minutes to go.
