The AL West is historically bad

Rangers and Astros both sitting at 78-80 with four games left for each. If both teams lose just two more games we will get our first ever sub .500 division winner. Truly the shite mountain of baseball

Thank goodness they will play a 3 game series in the playoffs to determine the better team. The 162 games they just played isn’t nearly enough competition to settle it.

I think they either need to go to 2 divisions or 4 divisions. My preference would be 2 divisions.

Yes. I have always hated Division winners getting a guaranteed spot in the playoffs, much less, get to host. If anything, you can have the division winners and three wildcards, but seed them 1-6 based on records. Yankees would be the two seed and get a bye; instead, they get a four seed because they were unlucky enough to be in the same division as the team with the best record. Garbage.
ETA - Even if divisions were eliminated, the AL is so bad, that the sixth best team would still Houston/Texas.

I do wish baseball had some kind of recognition for best regular season record. It's such a relatively random sport that seems to have a lot more flukes than the NFL & NBA
The 104 win braves losing to the Phillies (that they'd already spanked all season) in the divisional put a really bad taste in my mouth a few years back.

I don't disagree, but there is something wrong that it's arguably better to be the 3rd Wild Card rather than 1st.

As a Rangers fan I would normally never root for the Astros but as a fan of playoff chaos I badly want the AL West winner to win the World Series with a losing record in the regular season.
Lose 2-4 more and it becomes possible for the Astors to finish as champs at.500 overall.

They will. The change will be to make more teams playoff eligible so that things like this happen even more often.

I raise you the 111 win Dodgers, lost to the Padres in the DS. Were 14-5 against them in the regular season.
