I thought it was targeting immediately, went to the bathroom and when I came back texas has the ball. I thought there was a turnover and asked about it and they said, no that ASU just punted. So it's a new year and we still don't know what targeting is

I'll never complain about targeting not getting called. Soft rules shouldn't determine a team's season

Until they enforce the same soft call when the shoe is on the other foot.

Targeting is just another tool the refs can use to provide a desired outcome

Same no call obvious targeting happened when Texas tried to murder gunner Stockton

Clearly obvious bias.

Amen and it was targeting by the rules

I'm not a big fan of the targeting rule but understand why they have it. But if you are going to have it, you have to be consistent and you cannot call and confirm very marginal calls in some game then not call a textbook example of the rule as written.

If that wasn’t targeting then what the hell is targeting? Textbook example of targeting. So a no call as to not determine the outcome. But it did, actually.

I'm not a conspiracy theory guy, but that was CLEAR targeting and should've been called.

Also, the ASU TD where the lineman literally carried Skattebo over the goal line was also a clear penalty, but the refs were too scared to call it. The end zone view showed a ref reaching for his flag, and then he didn't pull the trigger.

I'm usually a fan of letting the players decide the game, but the refs were chicken in this game.

We all know that could have bee called either way

Yes it could. But there was only one correct way to call it. And the refs failed, again. It’s an embarrassment and shameful.

Dipped his helmet at the last second to deliver the knockout blow with the crown. FLAG HIM.

I finally came to terms with the fact most professional/high revenue sports outcomes are “influenced” / fixed after watching the pass interference non call in the Saints / Rams playoff game. When you watch sports from that angle, it’s a lot less stressful. The WWF is at least honest about it.

What about the no targeting call on the ASU DB on the interception? I thought that was a harder hit than the Texas one. And the Texas player had his head up. To me, no targeting if you don’t lead with the crown of your helmet.

His intent was to lead with his head to make the tackle. It’s targeting. He made no effort to get his head out of the way.

We’ve gone from “see what you’re hitting,” to “get your head out of the way.

He came in upright. There was no “intent.”

Targeting is one of the worst rules ever implemented in college football.

that texas player, number 16, had some other questionably dirty plays, like trying to trip the receiver that beat him on the halfback pass and ripping the helmet off of the running back on the long sideline play. Surprised not called, was hoping he was ejected

They didn't call it on Arizona State on the interception when their player actually left the ground hitting helmet to helmet. Since they didn't there, they had to be consistent.

Finally someone has noticed. It is all about money. That was a targeting foul per the rule, but the officials set that aside to help Texas win.
