Stevens was a 5 star recruit. Could have gone to any school in the nation. If I were him, I consider transferring after this last move.

why are you folk assuming Stevens is not excited about playing WR ?

I am sure right now he is being told that he has the tools to be a NFL wide out. Maybe just maybe the coaching staff is looking out for what is best for the team and the young man.

You people are still melting because of something that’s false and has been reported as so by a few different people?

Correct. On page 3 it was noted that he was practicing with the safeties. On page 5 stated 2 more times.

Gotta hand it to some people. When they latch on to a narrative they latch on hard.

he couldn't get on the field as a wr and moved to hback. I'm not saying he should stick to one or the other, but this whole, the kid chooses where he plays is bullshite.

You play where your fricking coach wants you, where he feels you help the team best.

Survey says:

Grouping: Jacoby Stevens is listed as a WR on the new roster but was seen by media members with the safeties.

yes and no. College football is a different dynamic with the recruiting aspect. Sometimes coaches are almost forced to let blue chip recruits play a position to get them to sign in hopes they can persuade them down the road to switch positions. Sometimes players transfer when they hear things they don't want to hear. Russell Shepard, for instance, committed to LSU because we were the only school that would give him the opportunity to try to play QB. Obviously we all know how that worked out down the road, but to say players have no pull in regards to what position they play isn't completely accurate. And making false promises to recruits to commit can also potentially burn your credibility down the road with future prospects.

I agree to an extent. Can't have the players run the team and coaching staff, but also unhappy players aren't going to play as well. It's up to the head coach to find the balance. I don't think O deserves any shite even if the kid did switch to WR, especially in the spring.

Well, for one, it seems like this thread was premature given reports say he's been practicing with the safeties this spring. But additionally, I seem to recall last season that Orgeron had promised Stevens and his father that he would have the opportunity to try both positions. Stevens wanted to try WR at the start of last season but decided mid season he wanted to go back to defense. I don't think Orgeron deserves criticism for upholding a promise to a 5 star recruit to let him try multiple positions to see where he does best or which position can get him on the field.

To add to the confusion, Stevens practiced with the safeties, not the WRs, yesterday

Develop a player at a position by teaching him the inverse of that position.

It works in many sports. Not saying that's what's going on here, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Personally, I would love to see him at H-back. If the offense stays the same as Canada's we will utilize him in the passing game. We definitely need athleticism in that position. That position also requires a bone jarring blocker. Can he do that?

The positive side of me says Stevens sees where the air game is going and wants to be a part. Could lend to the "we are going to air out this year" comments flying around.

The offense might be funnnnn to watch!
