re: Stevens moved to WR on spring roster
So we move a wr to corner but not the guy that played safety and corner in high school and was a 5 star DB.

I mean he has to be a better corner than netherly

It looks like LSU is just trying to find a spot to get him on the field. Clearly Aranda thinks Battle and Delpit are better. Otherwise, Stevens would be starting at safety. It's unlikely that he goes to CB. So if he's not going to get on the field as a Safety, where do you play him? DT? Guard? RB?

WR may be his best chance to see playing time. That is, unless you think the coaches are wrong in their evaluation of the safety position

re: Stevens moved to WR on spring roster
Remember that this kid wasn’t a full time safety in HS so his learning curve for that position is probably steeper than Harris and Delpit.

Given that fact, I am willing to bet that when he is sitting in the safety room and he sees that his peers are so far ahead of him mentally, WR starts to look pretty damn good to him.

If you want to blame O for not making him focus on Safety last year to catch up, that’s fair enough. But I think he understands playing WR much more than he understands playing safety.

Strictly a guess on my part, but with the lack of depth at CB, I wouldn't be surprised to see some 3 safety packages. It seems that Stevens would be good in that role. Obviously Aranda knows just a little bit more than me about coaching defense though.

The number one safety is moving to WR

re: Stevens moved to WR on spring roster
He has to do 1 of 2 things. Gain weight and become a linebacker or lose weight to be a DB. His weight is an issue. Not that he's fat, but his speed is affected by his weight. He's probably weighing in at 220 or so. He can get big enough or slim down. That's what he should do.

re: Stevens moved to WR on spring roster
Paris was the number 1 CB coming out his year.

Sometimes players don’t live up to the rankings.

Not saying Stevens is bad, just saying that the fact that he was the number 1 safety doesn’t mean squat.

You can pretend not to remember but last season it discussed ad nauseum that Stevens was given the choice of where he wants to play.

No one is forcing him to do anything.

Don't you think the head coach should have a little bit of pull in determining where he plays?

Because he's actually played the position

What I think is that if he was as good at safety as his ranking in HS said, he wouldn’t be a WR right now.

...the same as this?

It’s been clear from the beginning that Stevens has free choice of which position he plays.

OK. So you are or are not of the opinion that Stevens is the one changing his own position back and forth?

I think It’s stevens choosing to play WR but I think the fact that the coaches didn’t stop him from making that choice is rather telling.

he's played cornerback? He played safety and wide receier in high school, not cornerback. Cornerback and safety are not the same position. Safety and linebacker are more comparable. He's 6'2" 220. Maybe he should try linebacker actually because he's way too big to play corner. He's not an athletic freak like PP
