While the Tigers are the premier program in college baseball and have been since Jay Johnson came to Baton Rouge, ‘The Powerhouse’ could find themselves still battling with the likes of gymnastics and softball for NIL.

I’m also told when it comes to Johnson’s recent comments flirting with MLB interest, the school would love to have him, but would unlikely go ‘all out’ in order to keep him in Baton Rouge
Every word of this is unacceptable in the highest degree
At least gymnastics recently won the National Title recently and seems to be one of the top 2 or 3 programs in the past several years. The PMAC is packed for all of their regular season meets and season tickets sell very quickly.
Even still gymnastics should not be draining money from baseball. And softball damn sure shouldn't even be in the conversation.

Enjoy Jay Johnson while he is here because those days are numbered.

Women's basketball will be getting even more money. Baseball money will be staying the same. Baseball in same pond as gymnastics and softball

Maybe so but I doubt it. With the cap on rev share it only makes sense to use NIL/donors to produce more funding. All of the current "big" coaches have the personality and fanbase to pull in big $$.

I understand why but this is fricking pathetic. Clearly the revenue potential with basketball is greater, hell the NCAA makes more money off March Madness than any other event, but to essentially say they are willing to let the best program/coach on campus go for a sport that we get decent TV RATINGS in is egregious. The attendance/success the baseball program brings is far more valuable to fans.

Our donors aren't going to let Jay go anywhere

It’s worth noting Mulkey has tirelessly worked to get her own donors, something the school is actively looking to alleviate
Why?

it’s also expected that additional resources won’t be sent to Johnson from LSU’s athletics budget for 2026 and the near future, meaning the near $11 million spent on the baseball team (Johnson’s salary + NIL + team expenses) in 2025, likely won’t increase in 2026 or beyond
:dontlikethatgif:
I mean, I get it, money drives everything, but the fact we’re not rewarding baseball with a bigger slice of the pie after a freaking national title is still disappointing.

Guy that was at one point posting on TOS trying to be an insider. He got booted after he kind of went off the rails one day. I know I have the reputation of being a guy that likes to argue on here but he was on a whole other level

Now you people can see as much as we love Baseball and they’re the PowerHouse Standard. In a dominant run to the 25 National Championship the program lost 2mill$.
MBB on the other hand, McLoser and Co. couldn’t win a church league tournament and still profited 2.2mill$.
This is NOT a personal preference or popularity contest, it’s Business.

If anyone on here is on the ON3 message board, this guy is a maniac.
I would take anything he says with a large dump truck of salt. Dude is unhinged.

Women’s basketball lost, by far, more money than any other program. Baseball was only surpassed by football and men’s basketball in terms of net profit. So if it’s just business, why would you allocate more money to the biggest drain on the athletic department financially and tell baseball to pound sand. That doesn’t even make sense if it’s just business

Gymnastic is not draining money from baseball. All of the sports are draining money from football and MBB. They are the only 2 money makers. Make no mistake there will be no profitable baseball like occasionally in the past with the current expenditures.
CJJ has his own donor base just like Clark does. With the current level of competition and the financial arms race all of the coaches have to participate in fundraising just like they have to recruit. If they don't their program will be left behind.

I don't know how accurate all of his info is, but the last sentence about JJ being frustrated with the admin right now is very accurate.

frick that! IF true, an extra 5% to women’s basketball for a total of 10% while baseball STILL has to share 5% with gymnastics, track, etc is absofrickinglutely bullshite and a slap in the face to Jay, the baseball program, and the fans.
The OVERWHELMING majority of fans want that to go to baseball not women’s basketball which has an artificially inflated viewership from espn shoving it down our throats.

Mulkey pushes hard the idea that all the eyes on the women's basketball program raises the LSU brand a lot, which can't be directly factored into benefit/cost numbers.
I think that is a stretch but it's is how she pushes for her program.
I will say that I am fine with Mulkey bringing in as many donors as she can. If she has a lot of fans that go to games and donate, then fine by me. Just don't want us doing this at expense of baseball

That so much money on pay to play. College sports are a mess.
Very grateful that our wealthiest donors are willing to spend so much on their college team.

I wonder if he’s another Lonn Sullivan bot like Tyler Daigle and Joseph Hebert

Mulkey makes almost three million dollars a year. She has a big staff to help her.
UCLA’s coach just won it all and makes less than a million dollars per year.
I think Mulkey can do it with the resources at her disposal.

Where do you think all of the money comes from?
Do you think Woodside, Coke, Nike etc. and all of the other companies are giving big $$ to LSU for just the people in the stands?
And that doesn't even factor in the consideration of the nontangible of University exposure and marketing etc.
