Sounds like this is a good hire from the standpoint of qualifications and style
Taking from bama is another plus.

Standardized test scores don't truly equate with IQ either.

On LSU’s Athletics and Louisiana’s Political Environment
He doesn’t really connect much with athletics here. For the most part, Saban had final say over everything so Dalton had to submit to whatever he wanted. That being said, he is not anti-athletics and I think his time here has been a good learning experience for him on the importance of athletics in the SEC.
In Verge's interview, he said the Chancellor will not have anything to do with athletics.

Wild that UA is 60% out of state
In case you haven't encountered this, UA recruits out of state high school SRs. very heavily and offers substantial scholarships. Many top GPA students from really good schools get offered big $$, some even full tuition scholarships instead of very small scholarships or none to LSU. If all or nearly all out of state tuition is scholarshipped, then cost of attendance is equal to or less at UA than at home state LSU.

Anyone know the reason(s) why board member Laurie Lipsey Aronson voted “NO” on Rousse?

Thanks chicken... there is no part of that that doesn't excite me!

quote:The devil will be in the details, but currently at LSU, instructors and teaching professors generally have twice the teaching load at half the salary compared to tenure-track professors. The reduced teaching load for tenure-track professors is supposed to be balanced by the research and publication requirements.
, we implemented new titles and promotion paths for RC Faculty (Renewable Contract) with PhDs. Dalton’s stipulation with this was that all RCF, even if they were strictly teaching faculty, had to have some sort of scholarly activity (publications, research, presentations, etc.).
To bring down class sizes they will need to offer more sections, which means hiring more teachers or increasing teaching loads. Those things will require more money.

Why do people say this?
Because I am one of those people.
I did terrible on standardized tests all through grade school but I had As and Bs.
High school had a few Cs thrown in. I only got a 23 on ACT. I don't consider that to be a great score.
I was accepted to LSU and UNO, the only 2 schools I was allowed to attend.

And what never gets asked or answered: why do you think UA has to recruit 60% of their students from out of state?

Some things on the 60% out of state numbers: When Robert Witt became UA President in 2003, he studied birth rates in Alabama and realized UA could not rely on in-state students to maintain enrollment, and especially would have trouble growing enrollment. At the time the state wasn’t very generous with funding, so Witt recruited nationally and offered generous scholarships. He hired recruiters in states all over the country. He also sent someone to Disneyworld to learn how they managed their grounds. There’s way more to it than that, but it started long before Saban was here.

Yep. There literally aren’t enough 18yo or “customers” who could or would go to UA. Football powered the brand nationally. Alabama has to spend money on kids not just because they can (and maybe couldn’t at one point) but because they have to…that doesn’t mean all the other schools shouldn’t either, it “just means more” because it’s existential. The school will close unless they throw money.
The demographics don’t favor any colleges but LSU seems to have weathered it, still seeing 50k+ applications annually.

LSU seriously needs to tighten up admissions, stop letting anyone who applies in, it’s becoming Southern University Law School West. The campus infrastructure is completely overloaded, ie parking, housing, etc.

On Holistic Admissions: He would prefer to make standardized test scores optional, but he has set higher GPA standards since he’s been here, mostly for out-of-state students since UA is about 60% out-of-state students. He’s good about staying fairly neutral on controversial issues like DEI. He speaks about things in a matter-of-fact way without getting emotional or on any kind of soapbox. I honestly have no idea about his true feelings on DEI because he just doesn’t bring that into the conversations we’ve had in meetings.
frick the whole holistic admissions. That’s strictly a way to discriminate through the back door.
And his "feelings" about DEI should’ve been the first fricking question asked of him after what that racist fricking moron Tate did to this university.

No kidding. We keep bragging about enrollment increases. Well, the flood gates are open. In two years we will be talking about retention because so many of this year's freshmen are not college ready and will be dropping out. We are headed for a cliff like Thelma and Louise. I'm already hearing about the quality of the last few freshman classes.

From the academic side, retention has already being a major topic of discussion. It’s also (ironically) a reason for increased acceptance rates.
