So if the kid goes to juco one year he gets a 3-4 million dollar raise? When redrafted.

Can somebody explain that to me like i'm in fourth grade?
How can Schmidt go to a juco college for one year and get the amount of money he was wanting this year? Will they progress him that much that the scouts will push him up the draft order?
That's all I got..

He can get drafted out of JUCO after his freshman and/or sophomore year. So he has 2 opportunities to increase his draft status and get drafted by another team willing to give him what he wants. That’s the only way he could potentially make more money.

Is JUCO going to improve his draft stock much? No.
But maybe the team that drafts him next year is willing to allocate more of their pool to him.
But he loses a year of development and possibly it takes him a year longer to get to MLB and start his service time clock.

I might be alone in this, but i have no interest in a player who has no interest in anything besides pro ball. A player like that would likely not be great for team chemistry as a whole.

If a team with a quality front office uses a high draft pick on him, they know he is willing to play college ball if they do not offer him an adequate contract, so they will have an agreement in place through his agent before they actually draft him next time.

He was pretty highly rated, and everyone knew what he wanted; he got drafted by someone willing to roll the dice that he would take a lot less.

I think I heard on the radio where he reclassified and is actually just finishing his junior year in high school. If this is true why wouldn’t he just take advantage of that and spend 3 years at LSU?
I obviously have no idea what’s going on in his inner circle but this is an odd situation. You definitely want the talent but you can’t deny from the outside looking in the kid seems slightly immature.

Mostly true. But others got drafted and aren’t considering going JUCO.
Jay has mentioned before that some kids just commit to LSU to be “cool”. Don’t know that that’s going on here but can’t help but to wonder.
I just assume that any time a kid considers JUCO, he had all the plans in the world of going pro and not going to a 3 year college in the first place.

Every single players who comes to LSU dreams of playing pro ball. The only difference is they have to wait 3 years to give it their shot.

I can't remember his name now, but didn't LSU take a pitcher out of Parkview High School in Georgia that was a top end prospect that did this?
I recall it was a toss up if he'd make it to campus and he did, but after we celebrated he withdrew and went to some shitty JUCO before the deadline and then was never heard from again.
He turned down good MLB money to play this game and never made it and never made that signing number again.

It was Mac Marshall and he went to Chipola. I wouldn't really call it a shitty JUCO though since they led all colleges in draft picks in 2017.

They need the college option in their back pocket for leverage. Some kids have no intentions of setting foot on campus. See Juston Crawford, Delino DeSheilds Jr., etc

It’s possible but it’s an improbable risk. I only have a 10,000 ft view of this situation but if he was dead set on pro ball asap then he needed to take what was offered to him by Cleveland. Next year draft is uncertain with lockout and the 27 high school and college class is LOADED with front line arms.
If he goes juco it’s a helluva gamble, but the tea leaves say he wants no part of being a 3 year guy. Stay tuned

Maybe, but maybe not. I think the team that drafted him was offering way below slot value; maybe one of the draft gurus here can tell me if that is right or not. I don't think it's that they offered below his ask; it's that they offered so much below his ask. But I could be wrong about all that.
