Absolutely has. He just isn't the type of player that can carry a team. We needed Quarteman to step up this year and our team D was awful. Simmons game is more suited for the NBA and he will be a superstar. Enjoyed watching him in purple and gold!

Absolutely. Unfortunately even the best 18 year olds can't play 40 minutes a game and single handedly coach and carry the team.

But I hope you enjoyed watching basketball for the first time in your life.

He is a good player he just can't lead a team. He does not know when to take over. He gets to passive.

Plus he still has deficiencies he needs to work on such as an outside jump shot, free throws, kinda soft on D.

Not seeing it. Very limited offensive game. No jumper so can't play the 3 spot. No great repertoire of post moves and will get pushed around by big strong 4s. And no visible fire inside. I see a very average career ahead.

His hype was insane, so no. He's been a great player, accomplished great individual numbers, but his style of play is better suited towards the NBA than college. He is not the scorer that people assumed he was, and this team needed scoring more than a distributor.

Hate to say this, but the fact is he couldn't carry his team to an NCAA tournament birth (barring miracle SEC tournament run). No, he did not live up to the hype.

He absolutely lived up to the hype.
1.LSU has NEVER been this talked about from the national media perspective.

2.Led team in scoring, rebounding, assist, steals.

3.Drove UP attendance.

What he couldn't do is get Tim Quarterman to buy into the TEAM concept. He didn't make Jones a better coach. That's his downfall if you want to nitpick.

Mmcgrath? First time in my life? You don't know me. First student in the Assembly Ctr when we clinched SEC in 79.

Happy to see diverse opinions. Imagine people actually thinking.

SEC rankings:

Scoring 4th
Assists 5th
Rebounds 1st

He is first player ever in SEC in top five of all those stats I think.

Steals 2nd

He did all right. Just admit the rest of the players did not perform consistently and the coaching was questionable at best. Ben was consistent.

The problem was not Ben.

20ppg, 12rebs, and 5 assists. First player in the history of the SEC to be top 5 in all 3 of those categories.

Yes he most def lived up to the hype.

Can't blame Simmons for the play of TQ, injuries to Hornsby, eligibility of Victor, and lack of coaching from CJJ. Those are the real issues with this team and that's why our record is what it is. It's not because of Simmons.

Not even close. Great stats mean nothing with the record we have. A player of his skill level should have led to better results. But he doesn't yet have a killer instinct. Maybe he develops with age and experience in the NBA, but he doesn't have it now and it shows.

Phenomenal talent, but unable or unwilling to take over a game and carry a team. He has elite skills, but he's no LeBron...yet. And I don't think he'll get there. Just doesn't dominate like James does. James is at a whole other level and Simmons isn't there yet. But then, few are.

I predict Simmons to be a far better pro than college player, but that doesn't help us much does it?

NIT with this level of player and surrounding talent is disgraceful. All eyes are on Johnny. And they should be. If not now, when???

No he didn't. We aren't going to be in the tournament. Someone who puts up his stats, which are outstanding, should be dominating games. Unfortunately he didn't do this as he got lost in many games. Wish him the best in the nba but I expected so much more.

He didn't live up to they hype. The guy has not hit a single jump shot all year. For all you jackos saying his game is better suited for the NBA, tell me how he will make it when he cannot SHOOT!! He is not big enough physically to play inside.. and still even those guys can hit 15 footers consistently. How can he "carry" a team when he cannot shoot anything outside 5ft????
