So did Ben Simmons live up to the hype?
No, definitely not.

He's a nice player with good size, ball skills, and seems to be very coordinated. He's everything you could have asked for, from a body standpoint.

But his hype level was that he was going to be a legendary player, someone you would tell your kids you saw play, and brag about his exploits. For example, I brag to my son that I saw Shaq here, saw him break a rim on a dunk, saw him block 10 shots and insanely dominate the lane, while leading the team to wins in superb games when it mattered in the season. Saw him do amazing things.

I can't say Simmons amazed me ever, other than maybe to say he was the quietest stat machine I've ever seen. It WAS amazing to see how someone could pile up numbers and yet never seem to be a real factor in a big game.

Very likely I'll never see another 6'-10" Tiger handle the ball as smoothly as this freshman.
Great skills and made really tough shots look effortless. Isn't perfect but damn good player.
Led the team in minutes played, points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Averaged 5 more minutes per game than any player on the team.
Only the haters on this website could have run the court and played as many minutes as Ben, without taking an occasional play off.
He never looked winded to me.

19.6 pts, 11.9 reb, 5.0 assists are great freshman stats (31 games) 105 turnovers

Steph Curry freshman year: 21.5 pts, 4.6 reb, 2.8 assists (34 games) 95 turnovers
Magic Johnson freshman year: 17.0 pts, 7.9 reb, 7.4 assists

Great Tiger and love watching him play!

Not his fault. So people are leaders and others are followers. Just the way life is.

He didnt create the hype but he did embrace it so there is a little fault there. But are we blaming a teenager for that?

Leave the kid be. ESPN was looking for ratings and are equally to blame.
