re: So basically, from now on, every kid who can't crack the starting lineup will transfer.

quote:quote:I still watch, but my emotional attachment to LSU (and college football in general) is WAY down from just a few years ago. And I've been a college football lover for over 50 years.
So stop watching it. If it causes you this much angst, just give it up.
I get that, though it has not wavered for me. The few years part is probably related to 2019 for a lot of folks. LSU was on top of the world.

Of course we can stop watching, but we'd instead prefer the game we've loved to be fixed.
The game itself hasn't changed due to the portal, just player location and the effect that movement has on continuity.
I think some of it, and I do not mean to speak for you so do not take it as such, is that we want the players to love the logo as much as we do and think they used to. I am not sure that they did as a whole though some did and still do. The reality is probably more that the lower-ranked athletes and walk-ons were the ones who were fans like we were from the get-go and many of the guys who parlayed LSU into a lucrative pro career probably got there after the fact. The current situation just flies it in our faces and that can be offputting.
I look at guys like Josh Williams and think we do still have players who love LSU as much as we do.

If they can’t enforce those rules, it’s going to eventually crash and burn then. NIL will cause ticket prices to skyrocket over time and less people will attend and people will get tired of all the transfer madness and just quit watching. Then there would possibly be changes once the profits for the big dogs gets drastically reduced.
You aren't wrong.
In VERY general, two things have to happen:
1. It has to be accepted that, at minimum, college football (and men's basketball) are NOT scholastic extracurriculars with "amateur" athletes. They are multi-million/billion entertainment BUSINESSES and the players are professionals/employees within those businesses. This isn't the 1960's where it costs $3.00 to attend the games, few games were on TV, and the schools really were just happy to break even on the sports or, perhaps, make a nominal profit.
2. Players (future players) have to be willing to acknowledge the current marketplace is not sustainable long term. The schools, starting with the mid-majors and lower levels first, will begin getting out of the (at least) football business because it will become too cost prohibitive. That will eventually trickle up. Yes, the players have a ton of leverage now. The trump card for the schools/conferences is simply going out of business. That eliminates the marketplace because there is no other lucrative marketplace for the business of college football/basketball. If your options are negotiate regulations of the marketplace and accept more structured rules/salaries or earn nothing because there is no marketplace for college football, you have incentive to come to the table. Unfortunately, the new massive TV deals that have just kicked in will keep the schools from going out of the football/basketball season any time soon.
There is little demand for "minor league" football. People will fill a 100k seat stadium to watch LSU vs Alabama because of the 100+ years of goodwill built into those brands. Change that to the Baton Rouge Tigers v Tuscaloosa Crimson Tide and attendance/demand quickly plummets. It will be almost as lowly attended as minor league baseball.

It would benefit all of them to go in the portal, every single one.
Its just an open market. Find better offers or withdraw.

I mean, LSU got two Heisman winning QBs from the transfer portal.
It works both ways. If you don't like your job, nothing is stopping you from getting a new one.
There is nothing that stops a coach from changing teams or leaving.
I think there could be an argument that the first transfer has no restrictions, but a supplemental transfer without graduating could require a year to sit out?

This thread is why we should have a special appreciation for a player like Nuss.

LSU losing to aTm and UF was a tragedy and not so much a parody. That said, I think you may have meant parity

You’re allowing 18 year old kids to participate in unrestricted free agency.
That was never going to end in anything BUT unmitigated disaster.

It clearly affects the team chemistry and quality of play in football. I think it's less of a problem in baseball and basketball.

Uh, what did you think was going to happen?

The whole system is corrupt. Burn it all down. I don't need LSU football in my life any longer.
I haven’t given up on my LSU fandom. However this last year was a lot easier watching after losing most of my interest in the program. It is just like the NFL. I can see where raising NIL money will become more difficult as fans lose interest.

Both played 4 years (actually Daniels played 5 years due to Covid).
What Burrow and Daniels did via the portal was just fine - nothing like the nonsense we're seeing today.

there's an upside to all of these hideous alternate uniforms, makes it an easier transition because they don't even look like LSU anymore

If they can transfer to a team where they get to be a starter earlier then good for them.

My problem is when someone on here lists a potential transfer prospect, I go to Google the guy and it pulls up pictures/video of the guy playing at 2 or 3 colleges already and he's in the portal again. Nah bro, you made a bad choice of school twice already, stay where youre at or give up football.
