Maybe he just wanted to jump to the NFL when he could. A lot of players who have a bad injury go get paid as soon as they can because they realize how fragile their career is. I don’t think he was himself all year because of the injury. He might be playing himself back into shape and feels like the time is now to go to the League.

Makes sense. We have to build something here on defense. It will take a year or two, but the trajectory is very good.

Maason probably made this decision shortly after the bowl game.

you guys act like the possibility of becoming a millionaire tomorrow wouldn't make you say frick everything else.

Maason could probably improve his stock coming back, but it's already high enough to the point he knows he's getting drafted. Why come back and risk injury, lowering your stock even more when you can have your entire life changed in April?

Kelly would have told smith that he was working on bo Davis .

Hell , smith doesn’t care. All bo Davis is to him is another name of another coach that he met during recruiting . In his mind it’s just another guy. He wants to go to the nfl and thinks his grade is high enough to make it make sense

Haven't there been rumblings about maason Smith being lazy and not loving the craft?

I think some of these players get caught up in the 3 year thing and go no matter what.

Mason made the decision the day he signed with LSU he was playing 3 years and leaving.

I don't agree with much of that whole OP. Maason would greatly benefit from another year with a top notch DLine coach. He is not going to be a top pick getting a huge million dollar contract. He needs that year to get some stats up.

Maason didn't want to play school no more.

He's not coming back. If his decision was really dependent on who the DL coach was, I'm sure BK would have told him a hire was happening soon.

I wouldn't call low round draft money life changing.

25 sacks and 270 tackles feels like a lot

You are being too rational. The idiots on this board can’t fathom why someone wouldn’t play and go to class another year while they could be a millionaire over night.

...and what was "himself"?

Smith didnt show me anything in the 2 years he played (against P5 opponents). He made a few plays here and there... but you never could depend on him to put a complete game together.. He just doesn't have the motor/dawg in him.
