It's rare in life that you find someone that has a combination of strengths the Coach brought to the table. He had an uncanny ability to recognize a hurdle, address it, and obliterate it. From his early days at LSU prioritizing things like getting the old Box in order all the way to teaching his players the importance of never wanting to be the weak link in the chain...what an amazing individual he was. For anyone that has watched a single inning of LSU baseball, you owe it to yourself to watch the "Hold the Rope" documentary. The man was truly a transformational part of the landscape of college baseball.

This is a sad day, but Skip Bertman literally built LSU baseball from the ground up. And he had a distinguished career as AD.
Now I felt sad when Cholly Mac, Arnsparger, Dietzel and other former Tigers moved on. But losing Skip is a punch to the heart-- like losing family. He WAS LSU baseball.

Growing up in the 90s, Skip's teams were the reason I fell in love with LSU baseball. RIP to the best.

My initial interest in LSU baseball came during his tenure in 1987. Not only did he elevate LSU baseball, he elevated the entire game. I think it was Coach Bertman and his success that was the foundation for college baseball's rising popularity.
He'll be remembered at LSU and in college baseball the same way John McDonnell was at Arkansas for track & field. He didn't have as many titles as Dedeaux, but he transformed the landscape like no other coach.
Rest in peace, coach. You'll always be loved at LSU and beyond.

This one hits hard.
Skip was truly a legend and larger than life but was also one of the nicest sincere people to walk earth.
I’m sure many here have met or talked to Skip over the years but here’s mine.
When I was 12 in 2003, my uncles tailgate was selected tailgaters of the week and Skip and Mrs. Sandy came present a banner and did photo ops and stuck around a little bit.
Skip proceeded to have a lengthy conversation with me, asking me all sorts of questions of questions like a grandpa talking to his grandkids. I was in absolute heaven and I’ll always remember that encounter.

Rest easy coach. You'll never be forgotten, nor will your attributes that elevated LSU baseball, LSU athletics, and college baseball as a whole.
I will miss seeing him at games, hearing the commentators talk about him, or seeing him on TV at a game.
