Grew up in Opelousas in the 90s playing baseball every summer. My grandpa would take me to all of my practices and games. On my days off, and the Tigers were playing at The Box, he and my grandma would take me. LSU baseball was my life and Coach was the one that orchestrated the whole thing. I link him and my grandparents to those awesome times. I almost feel like I lost another grandparent….
I knew this day was coming soon, but I hoped we would get a little more time with Coach. Gonna miss seeing him sitting behind the plate…

RIP to a great coach and a better man. Ill never forget i was bring my girl into the Pontiff Hall of Fame and Skip was in the HOF doing some type of interview and of course a crowd was forming since its freaking Skip in here. I was part of this crowd, cause come on its freaking Skip. When he was done filming i walk up and ask for a picture and got to shake his hand. Even with a large crowd all trying to do the same i just did, he stands there, just for a few minutes, talking to me. Trying to have a conversation although there are so many more people waiting for the picture. When we got done talking i stepped aside and proceeded to watch him do this with every single person who was there to meet him. He was truly a special man and the world is worse with out him in it. I'm glad him and Mrs. Sandy get to be together again and i hope he somehow knows how much so many people in Loouisiana will miss him. RIP coach.

Ran into him at Circle K in Tigerland some time in 2003. I was in front of him in line getting some Swisher Sweets. I said 'Hey Coach' and he responded by saying that I should have gotten Black 'n Milds instead. I don't think he knew what I had planned for them, LOL.
Years later I served him a couple of times when waiting tables in grad school. Once he gave me an attaboy on his way out and said great service. He didn't tip very well but that made up for it.
