So let’s play scared of getting hurt? Dumb.

As it stands, it appears lsu doesn't have the pitching the prevent getting blown out one game in a three-game series. Risking Skenes at all to add another bat to the lineup doesn't make much sense. Risk-reward.

It’s not about being scared. It’s measuring the risk vs the reward.
We don’t even know how good of a hitter Skenes is. And don’t give me some stats where he hit at Air Force against mountain west pitching. We’ve seen Jones and kling hit nukes against that quality of arms too.
Hitting didn’t lose last night’s game. Dumb pitching decisions did.

Ben McDonald, who knows more about pitching than anyone here has said numerous times that Skenes will never hit, describing the risks vs the reward.

I mean how good is this dude at hitting? If he's just another decent hitter then yeah I get it but if he's like Ohtani then frick it. Let er rip.

False advertising
It’s risk vs reward. What do we have more of on this team? Power hitters or stud, MLB caliber arms?

It’s not worth the risk. What happens when he gets HBP and breaks his hand? Or slides and blows out a knee?
How often does that happen?
He's supposed to be a slugger, right? You want Skenes up there with guys trying to bust him inside?
You think this place is unbearable now, imagine the posts every time he gets a tight fastball inside. And God forbid he takes a HBP. We'd see 10 pages of "Take him out NOW, Johnson you dumbass" posts appear the moment you refresh the screen

No. Juice not worth the squeeze.

How often does that happen? Ask Crews or White.

We live in a pussy world now. So that would never happen.

Do you seriously think that what this team is lacking? One more bat? How in the world could you risk a generational arm for a few at bats? Especially how dependent we are on his starts.
Posted on 4/8/23 at 7:31 am to In The Know
I don't think the coaches oor anyone wants to take any chances at all, even the very slightest with having another pitcher out for anytime, especially the best pitcher in the country when our lineup is definitely not the problem
Posted on 4/8/23 at 7:32 am to SperrysBruh
Nothing to do with “the melt”. When would his at bats on games 2 or 3 would have mattered? I can’t believe someone would bring this up.

No, but actually a better OPS,OB% and SLG% surprising enough. No doubt Neal is the real deal but seems to be in a slump and it's obvious to me that Alex has worked on his AB'S regardless of the numbers because it's well known that majority is against lesser pitching but even so that's much better so I don't think it would hurt to let Neal take a breather.
Edit to say especially at the 9 hole to allow dugas an opportunity to possibly still get to the plate late in an inning after working thru the btm with someone on.

Come on man. An Air Force dude been trained to drop nukes and bombs

Risk him taking a ball to the hand? nah
Posted on 4/9/23 at 4:30 am to In The Know
It makes sense only if he is a huge improvement over the guy he would be replacing. Who is the RH DH/1st baseman he would replace? Jones, right? Or against a LH pitcher he would replace Beloso or Pearson.
If he hit like Tommy White this would be worth it, but the evidence points to him being more in Jones’ category, so no real improvement. You would take bats away from Jones/Beloso/Pearson, make them disgruntled and more likely to leave, and get nothing for it except an elevated risk of injury to the nations runaway best pitcher.
