That won't change with another year of misreads and run-first mentality. He doesn't have good touch and obviously only throws to wide open receivers.

People said he wasn't an SEC QB either, yet here we are a little over a week after he led us to a win over Bama with the SEC West wrapped up. And I seem to recall him throwing a huge TD to Taylor into a tight spot between Bama defenders near the end of regulation.

He clearly still has things to work on like his long balls and making quicker decisions consistently, but considering how much he has improved just over the course of this season, I'm not going to make a ruling on what more time with good coaching might do for him.

It irritates me (probably more than it should) that the first thing a lot of y’all think about is losing a person who hasn’t ever taken a meaningful snap at LSU
He played most of the Arkansas game last year and led a couple of important 4th quarter drives this year when JD got injured.

Not a lot and not spectacular, but you can't say he hasn't taken meaningful snaps.

ETA: Regarding JD, last weekend may have raised questions about his ability to play in cold weather, which may really hurt any NFL chances he has. Aside from transferring to Penn State, not sure how he answers them... and no, he isn't transferring.

You tried to be a contrarian but you just proved my point for me. Thanks comrade

He's not an NFL talent,

This is not true. But it really doesn't matter if he is or isn't. He and his father always planned on him going pro after 3 years. And whether you or I think he should come back doesn't matter. Look at all the LSU players who left early who wouldn't get drafted until the 7th round or go as an UDFA. This was the expectation that was going to occur with Daniels.

All depends how he finishes.

Remember Jamarcus - not that he wouldn’t have gone but he was the No 1 pick. Not based on his body of work but how he finished.

I think He can make himself a first rounder if he gets consistent

That being said it’s probably the best time for a guy like him to make the NFL for 2 reasons

1. Teams invest in mobile QBs more than ever before
2. Teams invest in quality backups at QB more than ever before.

Plenty of people were saying

Daniels wasn’t even a SEC QB much less an NFL QB before this season even started and after the Florida State game.

I don’t think we can have any idea what another year in the system, another year of experience, and better talent surrounding him might do for his improvement as a quarterback.

Why wouldnt he come back? If gets drafted it will more than likely be on second day lower rounds. If he comes back his draft status will only improve his draft status. He is a good college QB, but as we all know NFL is a whole different animal

I think first rounder is a bit much. He is a good athlete but he is no where near a first rounder.

Good gracious your takes are a mess. Someone must have forgotten that "you cant spell Les Miles without 2 L's"? Where does LSU stand right now? Miles had 1 season over 12 years where he had only 1 loss. Wake me when BK gets there

beat Bama in Kelly's first year with JD being named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

Hell, Jefferson beat Bama, and no one on this board wanted him to return the next year. No one in the NFL wanted him to play QB either. JD is no different at this point. Both are 4 year starters and still had trouble reading defenses, and getting the ball to the skills players

I spoke with Daniel’s mom Friday night in Fay. I asked her if he was coming back and she didn’t say a word but her body language suggested that the hope/desire is him being drafted this year. I get it from he and his mom’s perspective if that is really their heart. As a fan, I would love to see him come back and win the Heisman. I told her I believed he would be a strong contender should he return and she was gracious about that comment.

It should be noted that I had no idea I was talking to her about her own son for five minutes because I had no idea what she looked like. Good thing I love JD otherwise that could have been awkward.

ETA: my non expert opinion is that he would come back should our year not end with an SEC championship and/or not going very far port season. If we somehow beat UGA and go on to do well in the playoffs, he gone.

In the Spring Walker Howard will give Jayden Daniels more than most expect.

While he still has work to do in reading defense and making progressions, there is now a path to the NFL for QB's like Daniels. In the past, they would be looking for him to possibly switch positions, but with the success of Lamar Jackson, Hurts and as of recent Justin Fields, there are more and more NFL teams that will be willing to play a mobile QB that could never be the classic drop back passer.
It makes allot of sense, NFL defenses are set up for drop back passers and struggle with the mobile QB's.

Hurts and Fields struggled mightily trying to run the traditional pro style offense, till their teams adjusted their offenses to more like the Ravens. Daniels could definitely fit in to an offense like those

This might be true, but it's a bad decision unless something changes. If he's the same QB that he is today, he's not going to be drafted high IMO and leaving for the draft would cost him a lot of money and a lot of opportunity.

So far, he's shown no ability to push the ball downfield. And, he's shown very little ability to anticipate throws and make quick decisions.

Physically, he has a nice release and his arm strength seems adequate. And, of course, his mobility is off the charts. But, I don't think that gets him drafted high.

I agree. Take it FWIW. That could simply be mama bear’s wishes but not her sons. As a mom, I get it. She’s probably dedicated most of her life to helping him get to this point and the last thing she wants is her son getting hurt before he has a chance to finally go pro. He may have the right people in his ear being realistic and that’s highly probable. I think one more year benefits him (and lsu) greatly.
