SEC Should Reduce Fine

For each of the last two games, LSU has been fined $250,000 because the Tiger fans stormed the field after great victories. I understand the need for crowd control but this kind of fine is off the charts. Reduce the fines to something reasonable, such as $25,000. College sports are so compelling, in part, because of these open displays of joy. Why destroy it? Tennessee fans threw their goal posts into the Cumberland River and Kansas students just dumped them into a campus lake. Good for them! What else have the Jayhawks had to cheer about lately. Shall we install chain link fences and barb wire around the our college football fields? University administrators can't stop these kinds of celebrations, and they shouldn't be required by heavy-handed bureaucrats to do so. Relax and enjoy it. This is what makes college football such a marvelous experience. And the folks rushing on to the fields pay the salaries of the folks at the SEC and NCAA headquarters.

Shouldn’t be a fine at all, if that many people want on the field they’re getting on the field

I think the fine in general is stupid

It’s obviously not a deterrent

Do you know how much money there is in CFB? A 25k fine would be what you wipe your arse with.
Either way, I don’t give a frick about the fines. I’m sure Woodward/TAF are quite happy writing that check as long as there is no frickery on the field (looking at you, Bama against TEN).

LSU gets cut a check for $55m+ yearly plus all revenue generated from events. They’re not going to be hurting.

Well it causes the darlings of the SEC (Bama) to punch coeds

Eh who cares. You could argue the fine probably isn't high enough the prohibitive to many programs.
250k is peanuts in the grand scheme of things.
I do remember it 2007 though during the FL game they lined up all of the troopers, security etc around the student section to prevent an on field rush

I like it too just don’t want injuries or Lord forbid trampling deaths
Put a few snipers around stadium and ask everyone to behave
Or else
Kidding

Act like we have been there….
1997 UF I was on the field. We hadn’t been there (archer/Curley).
Since then we have 3 natties and another trip to the big game.

It's not a deterrent because fans don't have to pay the fine. Nobody cares when it doesn't come out of your pocket.

Shoulda lined the police and security up at the gates leading out to collect three dollars from everyone exiting after the game. That would cover the fine.

How about we fine the SEC for their horrible officiating and call it even.

FIFY. Let each school determine their tolerance for storming the field, and they choose, implement measures to prevent it.

They only have any restrictions in place to prevent anyone who does get injured from suing the SEC directly.

I seem to recall LSU putting a stop to it in the late 90’s. Just takes manpower. Then again, there might not be enough BRPD officers left nowadays.

It’s about safety. It’s interesting that you bring up instances where fans tore down the goal posts. I’m pretty sure that’s one of the things that scares the universities the most.. some drunk guy become paraplegic because he fell on his head trying to tear down the goalposts.
Then there’s the risk of someone getting trampled during the rush to the field.
And that’s without even getting into potential for altercations between fans and players/staff.
These may sound like silly concerns, but they are legitimate risks that the conference and the universities have to consider. The more often it happens, the higher the chance that a real tragedy occurs.
I’m not trying to admonish the fans who rushed the field. Just pointing out why the SEC and the university have a vested interest in preventing it from happening.

If storming the field continues to proliferate, sooner or later someone will be badly hurt or killed. That's probably what the SEC is leery of.
I saw there was discussion that the SEC is searching for ways to prevent the stormings next year. Not sure how they will accomplish that, but they will likely try.

Storming a field at home after the game ends should be no one's problem other than the home team's.
The SEC loves bragging and profiting about these Top 10 matchups but act like there shouldn't be any emotion or ruckus involved with them. GTF
