Personally, I think LSU should enforce better crowd control measures. I understand the culture is essentially a bunch of "look at me" so there's little point arguing against it. Let the fools footing the bill for everything else deal with it.

In the 80's deputies lined the field in front of the student section. I understand wanting to prevent injuries from going on the field.

However, back then there were law enforcement officers fighting and injuring students with night sticks.

The current situation is better. The SEC is covered and there don't seem to be injuries.

I seem to recall LSU putting a stop to it in the late 90’s. Just takes manpower.

Yup. I remember them surrounding the field with officers and even double stack near the student section.

They didn't even try to stop it. Their main worry was people getting trampled.

Storming the field helps with recruiting?

I'd like to ask one question: Which LSU fan ever got hurt in a "field rush??"

I've been in a crowd crunch in the French Quarter on Fat Tuesday...way more "dangerous".....

Let 'em have some fun !!!

It’s an easy way for the SEC to generate more money for itself. Pay raises incoming

Happens all the time. People get trampled to death in a surge of bodies. I can understand the excitement of the moment. I'll admit I have lived vicariously through the actions of athletes. When you're young you think you're invincible and bulletproof. You don't know how these situations can suddenly turn on you, and people get hurt badly. Nobody wants that to happen in a crowd surge like this, but it does.

Now you tell me a Bama Analyst was accosted on the field by LSU fans.

But then what do I know? I'm just a dad.

And this is the reason storming the field is common today. And you forgot to mention pepper spray. Back then you knew if you messed with/disrespected the law in front of a cop, you will get a beatdown. Now with social media and cameras everywhere, they can't do that anymore and have to follow protocol instead of being decisive and judgemental. The public knows the protection they have and says F it I have nothing to lose, and storm the field.

They need to have more cops with an intimidating presence.

SJW ruined any chance of you getting that back.

They don't even try to stop storming the field anymore.

The problem is that if the crowd wants to come on the field, there is nowhere near enough security to prevent it. If you start trying to identify and charge those for participating in a court storming you may scare a few into not participating, but you also kick your fanbase while they're excited.

For each of the last two games, LSU has been fined $250,000 because the Tiger fans stormed the field after great victories. I understand the need for crowd control but this kind of fine is off the charts. Reduce the fines to something reasonable, such as $25,000. College sports are so compelling, in part, because of these open displays of joy. Why destroy it? Tennessee fans threw their goal posts into the Cumberland River and Kansas students just dumped them into a campus lake. Good for them! What else have the Jayhawks had to cheer about lately. Shall we install chain link fences and barb wire around the our college football fields? University administrators can't stop these kinds of celebrations, and they shouldn't be required by heavy-handed bureaucrats to do so. Relax and enjoy it. This is what makes college football such a marvelous experience. And the folks rushing on to the fields pay the salaries of the folks at the SEC and NCAA headquarters.

You know that those administrators that you refer to are the same people that instituted that rule, right?

And I completely agree. Personally I enjoy watching people storm the field.

There could be other mitigations in place. Like instead of cops preventing people from storming the field, they form a box or a route lined on both sides and locked elbow to elbow to allow for coaches and players to depart the field safely.

You have a special kind of ignorance for thinking it is an LSU thing. Every team since 2013 that has beaten Bama when they were on the road has stormed the field.

Auburn in 2013
Ole Miss in 2014
Auburn in 2017
Auburn in 2019
Texas A&M in 2021
Tennessee in 2022

The last team’s fans that didn’t storm the field when beating Bama when Bama was on the road was LSU in 2010.

If storming the field continues to proliferate, sooner or later someone will be badly hurt or killed. That's probably what the SEC is leery of.

The reason this was originally initiated by the SEC was due to an incident where someone was hurt. I think it was a basketball game but there have been serious injuries, possibly deaths but I cannot recall, at college football games in the past.

I saw there was discussion that the SEC is searching for ways to prevent the stormings next year. Not sure how they will accomplish that, but they will likely try.

Yep, there will be a committee looking at that and part of it is increasing fines. I think the current fines were put in place in 2004. 250K seemed like a lot more money in 2004.

Why did Tenn only get fine 100k and LSU got fine 250k? Also what if we refuse to pay it?
