So, what do you think is the end game here?

Many moving parts on this one. I just don't know.

This may be a Sankey ploy to prove the that the SEC does not need the NCAA. If that is the case, he is locked into the fight and cannot quit.

This may be chancellors and presidents like Donde ("Esta") Plowman who just cannot let it go. They are also worried that LSU is going to get a leg up on them in other sports because it is going to be more aggressive, and they want to throw an elbow or two to back it off.

I think you have to believe that, as good a job as she has done in this litigation, this litigation is good politics for Liz.

Ultimately, I think that Disney/ESPN holds the trump card. And right now, keeping this litigation going probably attracts more eyes to their product.

This is a long way of saying I do not have an effing clue.

The entire state operates as a singular, corrupt machine.

There's a website, or used to be, that documents "the machine." It started as a fraternity at Bama in the early 20th century and morphed into a Temu Skull and Bones society. It runs student government at Bama and from there they move into positions of control in the state.

You see some of the same thing at LSU, although with a lot less of an iron grip. A lot of the usual suspect SGA tools end up at the state Capitol; mostly behind the scenes, not so much in elected positions.

Just as an aside, I think the following excerpt is a terrible sentence on the same point and should have been rewritten. I would not have filed a brief that used this weird (to me) sentence structure. But that's just me. There is jsut too much going on there. And its a topic sentence, which makes it worse.

Accepting Defendants’ mootness argument would also have the perverse effect of penalizing the Conference for showing restraint in its dealings with LSU.

Probably AI written.

How about this?

Defendants’ mootness argument would punish the Conference for exercising restraint toward LSU.

He has a large credit on his account for unbanning me. I got carried away in a Madison Brooks discussion a couple of years ago. I think I had had one or two or twelve beers at the time.

Best I can recall, an admin told me to cool down or I would be banned.

My response was along that lines of, "Then ban me." There may have been some regrettable profanity included in the retort.

The admin (rightfully) obliged me.

Chicken let me out of jail a few months ago. I am grateful.

THE SEC SAYS LSU IS DEFYING ITS “PROFESSIONALISM RULES.” FINE. WHICH SPECIFIC RULE DID LSU VIOLATE—and what specific act proves it?

LSU left the former pros off its football roster. Will Wade has now said R.J. Luis isn’t rostered and LSU will follow SEC protocols. The SEC points to recruiting, practice, and Wade’s earlier comments. Do those facts prove a rule violation—or justify a federal case built around “lack of institutional control” and the threat of expulsion?

That’s what CFB journalists should be pressing Greg Sankey on. Not just repeating the SEC’s accusations: test them. What is the rule, what is the evidence, and would another SEC school face the same campaign?

Ole Miss signs former Jazz player, former pistons player
quote:

On Aug. 25, the SEC made it clear that no former professionals were welcome in the conference. The Ole Miss Men’s Basketball team added one that day and another just three days later. Forward Micah Handlogten and guard Corey Stephenson both spent time in the NBA Summer League with the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons, respectively. Now, it remains to be seen if they will be allowed to play for Ole Miss.

Former Florida International Panther and Detroit Piston Stephenson signed to Ole Miss on the same day as the SEC ordinance. Stephenson started all 31 of FIU’s games in the 2025-26 season, averaging 18 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

Are Ole Miss and Missouri violating the SEC’s 1st amendment rights?

That would be great to know. Seems like it’s indefinite at this moment which is how the SEC wants it. If this actually goes anywhere it’s going to be way worse for the SEC than LSU.

The Defendants (LSU folks) will file a reply brief, responding to the SEC, on 10/20. The matter will then be ripe for decision. I do not see that a hearing has been set.
