It’s a voluntary league. The penalty is to the coaches and school it has no impact on the players other than they can’t play in the SEC.
That’s a pretty big impact to the players. Especially when another major conference is also banning them.

LSU wants this rule.

Scone said the vote was closer to 8-8

Soooo, if the LSU president voted for this, I would think Kiffin would back off. Even if the players win a TRO and are eligible, unless the president blesses it, I don't think they play.

These were players who, via court order, were eligible to play (i.e. enter the marketplace of major college football...of which there is only one aka monopoly). The conference(s) then colluded to pass a rule targeted at a specific group to exclude them from the marketplace.
Most look at major college football and basketball though the lens of nostalgia, that it is just some fun scholastic extracurricular activity, when in realty is a highly lucrative entertainment business...no different in principle than the NBA or NFL. The primary revenue sources for both of those league are (1) media/TV rights and (2) ticket sales. "Coincidentally" that's EXACTLY the same avenues the SEC, Big 10, and its member schools generate millions/billions in revenue.

Yeah, it involves LSU and suddenly the SEC office is playing hardball. Guarantee if it was Texas or Alabama, the reaction would be far, far less strict

Fining a state run university for following a state judges TRO/mandate?
Good luck with that one Greg.

Now the NFL is saying that any one defecting will not be able to return to the NFL.
They are literally black balling schools and players.

You also can't PREVENT someone from employing you...that is called "restraint of trade".

It has gone from the NCAA allowing eligibility for these players to what they hell they are doing to them now.
