It’s only right.
Stewart’s situation has an extra wrinkle because he played seven games for the Missoula PaddleHeads of the independent Pioneer League over the summer in Montana.

The SEC professional athlete rules only apply to Football, Men’s & Women’s basketball. Not to baseball, softball, soccer, etc. Weird selective application of the rules, but that’s what it is currently.

They have a former MLB player playing football for them. Yes, it’s always been done, but the that is in direct violation of the new SEC rule.

How else would he have played regular season games in the professional league?
The league and teams have to have insurance coverage. They're not going to just let guys show up and play without signing something.

The problem presented by this thread is a great illustration of why the SEC needs to tone down its childish hysterical attacks on LSU and Lane Kiffin. Kiffin and LSU are not the problem. The problem is that the NCAA and the SEC need to convene and establish clear and unambiguous RULES defining what is and what is not a "professional athlete". Once we have those clear Rules, the whole SEC can Ban professional athletes from SEC sports rosters.
The problem isn't LSU and Kiffin. The problem is that we haven't solved all of the problems arising out of the recent changes to college sports.
Like my Homie the Gangsta down the block sez:
Don't Hate da Playa. Hate da Game.
FIX THE RULES, SEC! DO YOUR JOB. Stop persecuting LSU and Lane Kiffin.
Let's stop fighting and trying to penalize one another and let's clarify the Rules.

Its so funny that's the line in the sand to be drawn. When theyre all already getting paid.
The real line in the sand should be that there are players that have been playing and practicing with professional teams and coaches. That now have an unfair advantage because theyre experiencing the next level.
But because they never "signed anything". It makes it any different. Somehow?
Next year LSU should send ALL its athletes to minicamps and training camps for MLB, NBA and NFL teams. But forbid them from signing anything. Practice with the pros all offseason. Then see if everyone is still OK with it.

Per one of the reporters familiar with the situation, the basis for Arkansas' appeal for his eligibility is the difference between affiliated minor league ball and unaffiliated minor league ball.
Because this is an NCAA eligibility issue.

That sure is a slippery slope. It has to be all or nothing. If not, then what is to stop someone from raiding the CFL and USFL/XFL for any guys that didn't play a fifth year?
My problem with this entire debacle has been that the SEC has been making it up as they go and we still don't have clear rules in place. They just wait until a school tries something and if they don't like it then they try to retroactively prohibit it.
