re: SEC ESPN host Peter Burns makes the case for retaining Matt McMahon at LSU

The only argument for McMahon is people’s pride being hurt because they predicted he’d be great and are now defending their ego over being wrong. That’s it

lol nice try but false on both statements

Because you’re leaving money on the table, basketball has way more potential to earn revenue in an era where that’s the most important factor to sustain success.
Genuinely asking, aside from potentially more ticket revenue, what other revenue? Does the SEC media contract not get split evenly amongst teams, or is there a NCAA tournament kicker?
Also, the issue is the revenue share pot. You can get all the revenue you want, but if the breakdown of the % of what goes to each sport doesn't change, you're dependent on legitimate NIL opportunities of which there aren't many for men's basketball in Louisiana.
Football will always be king at LSU and men's basketball and the others are fighting for scraps.

Just give him a lifetime contract

I still haven't gotten a straight answer on what the point is of spending 10's of millions of dollars on a program that is, at best, fourth fiddle at LSU. I love basketball, but if you're not going to fund it to be competitive nationally, just save the money and put it towards football and baseball.
Considering only Football and Men’s Basketball are able to be financially profitable, doing everything possible to turn a profit in those two sports is obvious. Sunk cost for women’s basketball is offset by national exposure so you could argue it’s worth the cost. Opting out of exploring every opportunity to make significant money in Men’s Basketball should be the move over waiving the white flag and prioritize minimizing losses when you could actually make money and promote the university in a meaningful manner. Being uber terrible at Men’s Basketball reflects poorly on the institution. You should avoid tarnishing the name brand at all cost too.

Why does everyone want LSU Basketball to suck?
They didn’t want us to hire Kiffin either, people that aren’t LSU fans do not want us hiring Will Wade this isn’t hard to figure out.

If it was just one year and he fell on the wring side of the bubble because of key injuries, ok. This has been 4 years of horrible basketball. There is no case for retaining McMahon.

If you bring him back, you give the men’s basketball team 1% of Revenue Share and drop NIL by 90% for the basketball team.
Make him earn it instead of wasting money on a team you know will finish dead last or in that real again next year.

Rousse, Mallet and $$$ People all want him at LSU!

From what I’ve heard, the pitch internally is “healthy Reed = one seed”.

He’s had years now, hasn’t built any kind of foundation
How can you build a "foundation" with today's game LOL when you're not getting the money, you set the bar pretty high for a coach especially when you throw in injuries. This is a money game now, lots of people outside of Purple and Gold are arguing for him, it should tell you something. I'll do this again just for you.
Points- 10th
FG%- 7th
3p%- 13th
FT%- 4th
Rebounds- 9th
Assists- 9th
Steals- 13th
Blocks- 10th
Opp FG%- 9th
Without your 2 best players that ranked:
1st in Assists(Thomas)
1st in Assists per TO(Thomas)
11th in FG%(Thomas)
2nd in FG%(Reed)
Reed averaged 9.5pts and 5.7 rebs in 18minutes, not even a half of play.
It's really not that difficult. Everyone outside the program can see it.

The line “results have been tough” is wrong so it invalidates whatever else he may have to say.
“Tough” is being entirely too kind to what the results have actually been.

Look at them arguing for losing. They actually want to lose. It’s crazy, they aren’t LSU fans.

ESPN wanted LSU to give coach O a lifetime contract. Screw them.

When you’re in last place there’s no “running back” anything.

the "increase" in NIL budget brought us up to the 3rd worst funded team in the SEC.
Some of that is on McMahon.
The coaches may not like it but sometimes you have to sing for your supper.
You never see him anywhere.
Meanwhile kiffin can be seen not only furthering previous relationships (fmol etc.) but mining new connections (Blake Fertitta.)

Sounds typical for a talking head playing to a wide market. Is he paying up for the buyout? He can frick off with his crap opinion.
