Have no problem with the rule changes keeping in line with MLB, but this will benefit opponents more than recent LSU teams

Jay hasn't been one to take many chances on the bases and has been prone to removing pitchers on 3 pitches as often as 3 batters.

Question - does a pitcher have to see 3 batters or complete 3 at bats?

Meaning, can they throw 1 pitch against the 3rd batter and get pulled?

And here we go with the stupidity.

I can maybe go for the 3 batter minimum but the 2 limit pick off is absolutely stupid

College ball keeps adopting weird rules that water down the game while allowing the most egregious problem--bad umpires--to continue. Baffling.

I’m not a big fan of any of the speed the game up rules, but if you HAVE to add something, how about the batter can’t step out of the box after every single pitch.
Two strikes, ok take a breath and step back in. Ball wizzes by your head? Yeah take a second.

No need to step out of the box and adjust your 47 different pieces of equipment after that 1-0 pitch you were never going to swing at anyway.

this is my biggest pet peeve about baseball. It's absurd when batters do this.

And yes, they should be required to stay in the box at all times.

come on, man. These are reasonable rule changes meant to speed up a game that is usually very slow.

You're right, that's an overreaction. Still strongly disagree, especially w the pick off rule. Strongly favors offense almost unfairly. To be fair I don't think it's a terrible idea to have a max amount, but 2 seems awfully low

Pretty easy get around this. Go Lane Kiffin...

Put the pitcher in vs the matchup you want

Then he's feeling soreness in his arm and you can pull him. The end

This, along with the pitch clock, dramatically reduced game times in MLB.

Average game time before was 3:04. Average now is 2:40.

Average SEC game excluding mercy games was 3:10.

With the new rules you could see a mercy game wrapped up in under two hours.

Typical low IQ response. Can't deal with being called out so threaten physical violence.

Yeah, Its not bad at all. I don't think people realize getting to the half inning negates the rule.

Maybe I'm just shellshocked from last season, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen guys come in from the pen unable to throw strikes.

This will materially impact games and materially impact pitching change decisions because of the risk.

Is the move to setup a lefty/lefty matchup gone now?

I didn’t like the idea of these rules when they implemented in MLB but, after implementation, it’s a better game.

Fewer mid-inning pitching changes, and none back-to-back, is an improvement in the flow of the game. I think it translates to college well.

The throw over rule in MLB has created more opportunities for stolen bases (as intended), but it's not like they were throwing over constantly in the Majors like sometimes happens in college.

The people making the decision a) don't understand the intent of the throw over limit, b) don't understand that not everything can be modeled after the majors because of the lower talent level.

It's going to make for worse baseball and it's not actually going to speed anything up, because it's not intended to speed anything up.

Is faster better? Is attention span of fans so short they can't stay alert for 3 hours?

Let's just keep watering down the game until they use whiffle bats and nerf balls and hit off a tee.

It’s 2 pickoff attempts per game.

But like Lester said, you can still throw over a 3rd time, you just have to get an out (at the bag or in a rundown), so it’s not like guys can get gigantic leads and take off immediately. I mean, they CAN, they’ll just get picked off.

And like Catfish said, it will probably increase both stolen bases and pick offs. I don’t know how much this was needed, but I don’t think it will wind up being a huge deal.

And Lester made another good point people se to be missing about the 3 batter limit. It doesn’t carry over into the next inning. So a lefty specialist can come in and face a LH hitter with 2 outs, get him out, only facing one batter, and a new pitcher can start the next inning.

It still will require some strategy and put some extra pressure on the pitcher to get that guy out. Say you have a LHP that has really crazy splits—LHH can’t touch him, but RHH crush him. He comes in with 2 outs and the bases loaded to face the opponents best LHH, can’t find the strike zone and walks him on 4 straight, then 2 really good RHHs are in the order right behind him.

So coaches will have to be careful about that. But I have no doubt Jay will have a plan for those guys to “tweak” something in those situations and exploit the loophole. Other coaches will too, but I’d bet he does it more often and more egregiously. Which I’m totally fine with.

These rules will change the game slightly, but I don’t know that they’ll be that noticeable. Maybe they will, but these are just tests, not permanent, right? If they fundamentally change the game, just ditch them the next year. But everybody in the league is playing with them, so nobody gets an inherent advantage. It may even give SEC teams an advantage in the postseason once the restrictions are lifted.
