Same rules the MLB uses.

It's especially dumb there, too.

college baseball isn’t hurting for offense/runs like the mlb is.

Northeastern stole 212 bases in 61 games last season (at a 82.5% success rate at that)

The pickoff rule is extremely stupid for college baseball, when teams are routinely stealing ~2 bags a game if they so choose.

Welp while we're making retarded arse rules let's just say 3 foul tips on full count means the batter is out. Games will be over in an hour and a half with all this shite

So if you throw over to first twice on someone with a big lead, after that second pick off they are basically given a pass to steal second base? You are not allowed to throw over again until when? The next batter?

This obviously can't be the case, so what am I missing?

The problem with the pickoff limit is that if you use all 2 (or 3 in my case) then the runner gains an advantage and can't be picked off.

This is my issue with it.

The way to get around the 3 batter minimum is to suddenly develop a phantom blister or arm soreness.

You can throw over a 3rd time, but it has to result in an out. So you can’t just “steal”.

2 batter minimum seems like it would be a much more logical step here.

Prevents a pitcher coming in for a single batter matchup.

And yeah, this will lead to baseball "flopping".

If the goal is to start training players for MLB play for a smoother transition and more accurate developmental gameplay, then let’s change bats too.

And what if it doesn't?

I get they're trying to prevent stalling on the mound with pickoffs. I have less of an issue with this than the batter minimum. I think it could actually lead to more pickoffs AND steals if that makes sense. Baserunners will inch out further trying to entice pitchers to burn their two pickoffs and will get caught.

I see. Man still seems like something that can be exploited in some kind of way. The gamesmanship will keep evolving with these changes as well.

I'd love wooden bats, but always heard it was a cost thing.

The mlb has been using these measures and no one bats an eye at it anymore. You won’t even notice these are rules.

come on, man. These are reasonable rule changes meant to speed up a game that is usually very slow.

There's nothing wrong with these changes. Other major sports tweak their rules all the time to make the game better. Hell, even stodgy golf changed some rules in the past few years.

God didn't give the baseball rules to Moses on the mountain. It's ok to modify them.

Id say this is not the goal as the overwhelming number of college players do not make it to the pro ranks. Overwhelming being over 95%.

It’s 2 pickoff attempts per game. Not the same. I’m also assuming, I really don’t know if that’s actually the case or not. I haven’t read the report nor do I have any relevant insight.

If the rule ever passes where MLB doesnt draft out of high school any more I think you will see a big push for college to go to wood bats for MLB scouts.

They do get to evaluate some of these kids on a shorter term basis in summer leagues that may use wood bats; but often times some players will miss those summer leagues to heal up or if you play deep into the tournament you miss a lot of those summer leagues playing time and you're already probably pretty fatigued/banged up from playing 60+ games going deep in NCAAT.

I still think it's dumb. But I understand where it comes from. Also, I'm just getting over the DH rule

Well aware

This is essentially the Jay Johnson rule. A lot of noise from ESPN/ D1 Baseball crowd this postseason about the length of games and the way that it inhibits their ability to promote the game.
I get why they’re doing it. I’m honestly not in love with the batter “limit” but I’d take it to avoid 4+ hour games. Stealing bases is just too easy in the college game to limit picks. Dumb rule.
Worst part is that the SEC is self inhibiting here.
