what good comes from ice cream? it’s loaded with fat and sugar and isn’t good for you. But i enjoy the taste.

My first reaction was to say that ice cream provides nourishment.. if you were truly hungry, starving- and somehow you got ahold of a pint of ice cream, it would nourish you…. Then i got to thinking about alcohol, and if you were thirsty, truly thirsty and hadnt had water or fluids in a few days, then someone offered you a couple glasses of red wine or a tumbler of vodka- would it help or hurt ? I honestly dont know the answer .

Not saying it applies in Woodley's case but many people with mental illness turn to drugs and/or alcohol to "self medicate".

If what someone posted above is true, that Woodley was sitting in the back of the team bus drinking cough syrup til he passed out- then i can with almost 100% certainty say that he was indeed self-medicating .. just realized that sounds like I’m making a joke (self “medicating” with cough “medicine”), but im not .

it's not really about would it help or hurt. It's about personal freedom to decide what to put into your body.

Almost anything, taken to an extreme, can be unhealthy.

Some things (which don't have much, or any, nutritional or health value) are enjoyable, and that's why we partake. It's all about personal freedom and the ability to make decisions for yourself.

Moderation is the key, as with everything in life. Now sure, some people can't moderate (look at all the obese people out there). But that doesn't mean the stuff they put in their body is necessarily bad. It's just too much of it.

Moderation.

You literally asked ‘What good comes from ice cream?’.. and i answered your question, that it provides nourishment, though obviously not as much or high quality as some other foods .. i dont know that a tumbler of vodka would provide similar nourishment for a person who was thirsty .. Maybe you should have asked a different question ?

I remember him in his playing days, but never heard the story about the sad ending of his life. Very sad.

Everyone that drinks does not drink themselves to death. Everyone that eats or drinks foods with sugar does not die of obesity or the beetus. Moderation is the key to both groups and their are some people who get addicted to one or the other or both and end up dead. We can’t regulate everything out there.

Alcohol having diuretic properties it would cause dehydration. Think cotton mouth with a hangover.

Social and emotional factors had to have been a factor for him being an alcoholic. Mental and emotional disorders are silent killers and are absolute Monsters to those they infect

The same cannot be said for cocaine, heroine and other “hard” drugs.

Cocaine and Heroin each have demonstrable therapeutic uses. Each were at one time part of a Doctor's daily arsenal of treatments.

This board is littered with the drunken takes of asswipes who were barely sober enough to actually watch the games.

Thankfully I dont drink.

Is anyone not troubled by the fact that alcohol is pushed so much by the ptb? The NFL is a huge advocate of drinking as are many on this board. Nothing good comes from drinking. It has destroyed more lives than all other drugs combined. Why is it promoted so? A few years ago the "august" Institute of Medicine finally came clean on the drug stating there is no demonstrable benefit to alcohol consumption.

$$$$$$$$

That’s your answer.

Sad but kinda weird the Advocate decided to dredge this one up almost 20 years after this guy died. He's not the only LSU QB to be in an SB since then.

You probably wouldn't have been born were it not for alcohol.

Not to quibble with you but which other LSU QB has played in a Super Bowl. I think Matt Flynn was with Green Bay but I don’t think he played. Same for Danny Etling with the patriots.

Mettenberger? Not Jamarcus nor Mauck. Hodson maybe with Pats but didn’t play. Who am I missing?

What good comes from it? Be specific.

Camaraderie. From servicemen to frat brothers to business tycoons, all will attest that there’s a bond made over drinks. Drinking allows a level of vulnerability and honesty that is hard to duplicate.

fricking. There’s a reason Jimmy Buffett wrote “Why don’t we get drunk and screw.” Many couples that have been married a long time can attest that a good drunken frickfest can improve a relationship. Between Vegas, Bourbon St., and all-inclusive resorts worldwide, economies are built on such truths.

Alcohol is terrible for you. It causes a lot of awful things. It is addictive. But let’s not pretend that there is absolutely nothing good about inebriation.
