I think one thing everyone seems to be forgetting is that it’s Arkansas. Even if Aloy makes the right decision, you know the guy on second is going to momentarily forget he has arms or something and try to catch it in his mouth.

He is correct about Dickinson’s failed effort to turn a double play. Dickinsons didn’t get himself in position to field the ball correctly, off to his left side, making it awkward to throw the ball to second and for Milan to complete the double play. That mistake followed with Arkansas scoring runs to take the lead. It was just a youthful mistakes to remind us that we are watching in progress the development of greatness from all of these young men. It is becoming apparent however that Jay Johnson and staff are recruiting and developing these young men to pitch and play better than rest of the country. Geaux Tigers!

The screwup at 1st was the bigger play.

Get curiel out at 1st and Aloy can flip that ball to 2nd for 3rd out. Or don't walk Fey.

That double-play opportunity was AVAILABLE and an easy one to make. It would have been effortless...but the Arkansas shortstop blew it. It happens. It cost his team.

Theriot letting his almost 50ness come out. These aren’t kids playing college baseball. They’re grown arse men.

One of the things RT mentioned that is being missed here is the fact that the out at third was “meaningless”. Arky was up by more than 1 run. This is the reason you turn two to end the game.
You want to end the game. The runner at third is meaningless. If it scores, you still have the lead. If you turn two, the game is over. You play to end the game there with a two run lead.

He still got the second out. The outfielder then tripped or his foot caught and missed the final out.

He will never admit it and we will never know, but i truly think for like 2.8 secs he thought there was no outs.

The only thing that makes me question this theory is if you just watch him the moment he lets the ball go he is very sheepish. Like he knew he fricked up as the ball left his hand.

That ball was hit so hard, he didn’t need to charge the ball to turn 2… he could have sat in hiis stance and flipped it over to second and they would have turned that and got Milam by 2 strides at least. That was the biggest blunder of the game

This....you always hear baseball players talk about the internal clock, when you've made that play so many times there in an instinctual feel for if you can make the play - it should have told him the double play was there - maybe the pressure got to him.

This is great insight for anyone that was baffled (but grateful) by Aloy's decision to throw to 3B in the 9th.

I’m still baffled by it. It was 100% the wrong decision. SS almost never throws to 3B and the lead runner means nothing at that point. Get the out at second at a minimum, most likely turn an easy double play to win the game.

He’s not talking so much about the speed of the play on the 2nd one. It’s more about intent & positioning & having your body and feet ready to go to 2nd base

When compared to seasoned professional baseball players in the majors, they're kids.

And that's what he means. As a matter of fact, Theriot is saying the the EXACT thing some of you are saying while stating that Theriot is full of shite. I really don't get what it is that you're saying he's wrong about.

In both cases, both players failed at baseball IQ that you have to have on the fly. Period. They got more enticed with getting a for sure out rather than trusting their muscle memory to turn a double play.

dude

This is the picture of the SS with the ball already turned to third base and throwing it. He didn’t need to charge it. From right here it’s still a very very easy DP
