Raymond wasn’t the best recruiter anywhere before he came to LSU.

He wasnt even great at LSU. Only 1 time in his tenure was he even ranked as tge best recruiter on LSUs staff.

Looks like an awesome hire. Extremely experienced, well educated and fits in to our new culture perfectly.

This new culture is so refreshing.

It will be nice to kick asses and be respected at the same time.

It truly is. From a fan perspective, it’s already noticeable. Some will want to see it before believing it but from a potential player perspective, I can’t see how any kid with his head screwed on straight would overlook what’s happening.

Makes sense that the Tiger's House would add a Steeple.

The Vikings Special teams really improved this year. Part of that is a new ST coordinator. Not sure how much of that was adding Steeples to the staff.

im curious if this was a guy kelly had already targeted before hiring matt or if he left it up to matt to ok it?

because seems like the DC should pick or at least have a say in who is on his staff

I’m excited to see some young energetic up and coming guys that are good and only going to get better. I think both will do fine recruiting and improve as the experience progresses in their respective positions. As for me, I trust SW and BK to make solid moves that will be difference makers.

LSU is NOT the place for OTJ Training with inexperienced coaches. (Haven't we just been through this?)

So, we be trading one NFL DB Coach from the Vikings, turned In Over His Head SEC DC, for an inexperienced Assistant Special Teams Coach from the Vikings that was a High School coach just 2 years ago?

Rantknocker Pump Lumps all excited.

Im curious as to how Kelly knew enough about this guy to hire him?
Not sure how this guy gets on anyone’s radar being a special teams asst in his first year.
He must be an impressive guy.

Kelly recruited several of his players when Steeples was a high school coach.

Plus the coaching community is a small one. These guys talk. They know who the up and comers are.

“Robert is an extremely talented coach who will bring tremendous knowledge, energy, and expertise to our staff,” Kelly said. “He enjoyed a stellar collegiate playing career at both Missouri and Memphis, and his experience impacting young people will go a long way in helping create a culture of success on and off the field at LSU. He’s a great fit for us, and I look forward to working with him as we build a championship program.”

Holy shite y’all, we actually have an intelligent head coach. Not a caveman, not someone who eats goddamn grass, we actually have someone with a head on his shoulders.

The proof is in the pudding.

I'm a bit concerned that Kelly is doing what most do and hire guys that he knows or has connections to, rather than the best, proven elite people that might be attracted to LSU the same way he was.

I'm also a bit concerned at the emphasis on current NFL coaches. As Saban showed, it is an entirely different world.

I'm excited at the changes. But I think too many people here think these are great hires just because Kelly hired them. That doesn't necessarily follow.

Like who?

Polian no time spent coaching in the NFL
Wilson never coached in the NFL
House, while currently in the NFL, has spent more of his career in college.
Steeples has had one single year in the NFL.
Davis never coached in the NFL
Cooks has spent the majority of his career in college.

So what are you talking about?
