MLB paternity leave is min 1 day max 3 days.

During a 162 game season.

Just saying.

Yeah in the NIL era lane is thinking 3 steps ahead. Normally a kid wouldn’t miss the this many days for birth or a child. Maybe miss a few days of practice. But this will be big to keep Anderson from transferring next year that they let him do this.

I mean what is crazy about what he said assuming the baby has been born

It’s a VERY new phenomenon to even get more than a day or two of “paternity leave” in jobs. Much less a job that pays millions for performance on 12 Saturdays a year.

As I stated in a sport that travels cross country and plays 6 days per week and has the most player protective union in sports the players only get a max 3 days off.

I honestly don’t think even if he played he would necessarily be playing a massive number of snaps given he has been out this week (ie this won’t make or break us) but it wouldn’t be zero snaps.

I don’t dislike him for not playing but it’s not unreasonable to wonder if he is.

If this were Leavitt or Pickett, the melt would be incredible.

Yeah it’s weird how people are acting on this.

I’m glad he wants to be there for his kid and if she is in labor on Saturday I get it no questions.

OTOH if the baby is already born and its Thursday it’s not unreasonable to ask.

Not getting upset at the choice. Next man up. But reasonable to ask

You realize the easy part is having them, then the hard part is the trenches that follows? Ever had a kid? Once you have a new born, It’s an all day grind every day til they’re sleeping through the night at around 8 months give or take. His gf is going to need his help, that’s why he isn’t gonna be there.

Pro players are also (highly paid) adults, often in committed relationships.

Anderson is a kid that made a mistake his senior year of high school clearly.

He is a child himself, can’t imagine this means so much to him that he’s moved to have to miss a game.

All that being said, he’s mostly been playing like shite. So I don’t really care. This point in his career he’s just a role player while he’s developing, so he’s not important to the team winning or losing

So are you saying he’s going to need 8 months of paternity leave?

He would be gone for 48 hours tops

Also this is nothing about Anderson in particular just curious to see thoughts on the situation in general particularly with the changing nature of paid college players

Considering he is currently listed as “out” I’d say the answer to that is no.

He isn’t going to get paternity leave for rest of the season. He made an adult decision and is going to have to learn how to juggle being a dad, student and athlete starting this weekend. He made a contractual obligation to LSU and donors and they will expect him to hold up that end too.

If the baby was born healthy say Wednesday or Thursday missing a game over it is a little bit much and soft.

Also Anderson isn’t staying up trying to put the baby to sleep dude have a lot of money, he can get a night nanny

I think the major point ppl are missing in this thread is that he likely won’t be able to play because he missed practice all week. Not because he can’t get on a plane 2-3 days after the child was born.

Lane has said several times with respect to Sam that he’s told Sam if you want to play (against McNeese), you have to practice. So Sam missed some practice that week but he also participated later in the week in a limited role.

What likely happens here is they all talk and understand that if RA is out Wednesday and Thursday, then they won’t suit him that week.

It’s not that new. I got 4 weeks of paid leave 15 years ago. Only took 2, because half my pay was commission based, and that wasn’t paid, just my base salary.

Much less a job that pays millions for performance on 12 Saturdays a year.

I’m sure Anderson got a nice bag, but he ain’t making “millions” of dollars this year. It’s wild how some of you think all of these guys are millionaires now. And not just football players. There were some tards justifying shitting all over some LSU baseball players last year, saying they were “fair game,” because “they are all millionaires now.”

And you obviously never played a college sport. Their “jobs” are for a lot more than just the 12 Saturdays a year. They devote several hours a day 7 days a week, almost 365.

quote:

As I stated in a sport that travels cross country and plays 6 days per week and has the most player protective union in sports the players only get a max 3 days off.

This is a dumb comparison. MLB has a players’ union like you suggested, and their collective bargaining gives them anti-trust exemptions, making them exempt from certain federal laws. I’m pretty sure there are federal laws now that guarantee paternal paid leave for most jobs. But the MLB is exempt from those. They get what they bargain for and agree to with MLB. I’m sure they could have gotten more than 1-3 days, but that wasn’t a high priority for them. There would have been trade offs somewhere else, and apparently, those issues were more important to the union and its members.

Now that college players are getting paid—not NIL, but from the pool of money paid by the schools or athletic departments—until they are unionized, they are probably susceptible to whatever federal, state, NCAA, SEC, or University laws/by-laws have in place. Pressuring a kid to not take leave that he’s legally entitled to, could have consequences.

But even if I’m wrong in assuming all that, that there’s not guaranteed paternity leave for college athletes, with NIL and the portal, there are always potential unintended consequences. If Lanes makes Anderson play, maybe he gets pissed off and wants to leave. Maybe not, but it could also hurt in recruiting future guys.

We need good DT play this weekend for sure. But Anderson is still just a true freshman, rotational guy. If Leavett or Seaton or Princewill were missing this game due to paternal leave, that would be a bigger deal, because they are more important and get paid more. The expectations for them to play are much higher than they are for an 18-year-old backup DT.

quote:

I don’t dislike him for not playing but it’s not unreasonable to wonder if he is.

Wonder if he is what? I don’t really even disagree with your take—I think it’s pretty fair. I’d prefer he play and then get time off during the bye week. But are you wondering if “he is an a-hole?” If “he is not a team player?” If he’s “selfish?” “Doesn’t love football” “Not dedicated?” How did you mean to finish that sentence? Some things I might agree with you on. Others I might find a little too harsh.

But at the end of the day, it is what it is. Hope the mom and baby are ok, that Anderson enjoys his time with them, that we don’t need him to win, and get back and ready to roll for Bama.

And assuming this is even true—I am just going by what I’ve read in this thread—he could also be a little banged up as well. And with the bye week coming up, maybe this worked out perfectly for him to get to spend some time with his newborn and fully heal and be ready for the final stretch of 4 games. Big Dom had a nice game last week against State. Maybe he’s ready to step up and be a bigger part of the rotation. Either way, I don’t think Anderson playing or not is going to be the deciding factor between a win or a loss.
