I'm sorry, but if he is sitting out because of a kid being born earlier this week, after what they are getting paid now, that's BS. Maybe I'm cold hearted, but this is a huge game and he has had time to spend with the baby. I guess I'm old school though. Has to be an injury right?

OTOH if the baby is already born and its Thursday it’s not unreasonable to ask.
I 100% agree. This isn't like a 9-5 job where your absence will barely be noticed. We are talking about 12 Saturday's a year. Even if he took a day off during the week, maybe even 2.....He should be on the sidelines just in case. But, college football is completely out of control these days. Again, I'm old school. I get loving your kid, etc, but you also have a job to do and this isn't life or death and he has already been with the child.

Kiffin did make the comment earlier this year about Sam, "If you don't practice, you don't play." He's probably dinged up and wasn't at practice due to birth/etc. So, he doesn't play.

seriouslly...that's an issue between him, his teammates and the coaching staff. I don't want to see a good player unavailable, but if they value that, then that is their business.

Sure, it’s allowed so he’s not violating anything team wise. It’s just soft culture stuff.

All that being said, he’s mostly been playing like shite. So I don’t really care. This point in his career he’s just a role player while he’s developing, so he’s not important to the team winning or losing
Terrible take. You must be ignorant to the fact that very few DTs see the field as true freshman. It says something about his raw strength to get as much PT as he has. He is going up against monsters that have been in SEC strength and training programs for several years. He is not a disappointment at all.

it has changed so much. It's funny, the older guys on here think this is soft as fk. The younger people feel entitled to it. That's a product of the younger society.

He’s our best run stuffer by a wide margin. He changes our run defense in short yardage situations. He’s going to be a monster.

Yep and you can see the reactions to my post how they’re hyperbolic and pussy. I love Anderson, been one of if not his biggest advocate this season and he wouldn’t be missing if it wasn’t tolerated. Like you say it’s a generational thing, it’s soft.

I can guarantee you that the coaches don't like it at all, but what are they going to do. This is what our soft culture has turned into. I remember Brett F going out and playing on the night his dad died. If coaches crack down, these soft players will walk. I love my kids, and perhaps if she were in labor on game day it would be different. But, already being born, and still not playing. I can't imagine ever not playing. Just a completely different culture.

Do you think it’s soft for a dad to be with the mother of his child, by her side for the entirety of a 2-3 day stretch when she’s giving birth to their baby?
Posted on 10/23/26 at 8:24 am to lob1284
Yes, the baby is here already, he was there for the birth. Time to get back to work, he’s not a girl.

I get that he isnt starting, but we need to shut the run down to beat auburn, and he would be a part of that. It sounds like Kiffin didn't even know, then added him in an update on Thursday. Or, maybe Kiffin just accidentally left him off. IDK. I could just never imagine this the way I was raised.

Yes, this should be his breakout game. I mean he changed the game vs Kentucky in the second half but we lost so that performance went a widely unnoticed. I’ve been in the situation, I’ve had teammates and friends in this situation, I was born in a situation like this. Nobody I know missed a game or a match over it.

You understand him being there for the birth means he wasn’t at practice. And our coach has a policy that you have to practice to play in the game. You understand that? Maybe Lane is soft? Maybe we can just say everyone is soft?

You missed the part when I said exactly that, twice?
