Retiring jerseys for college football is dumb when you have so many players. Even a guy like Tebow doesn’t have his number retired.

I disagree. Retiring numbers is dumb, especially in college football with 100 players on a team.

The real problem is this unofficial retired crap. I agree with having a 1-3 year cooling off period if a person wins a heisman. But put them back in circulation.

Honestly if you see 5 or 9 out on the field right now after it’s been a few years, are you really thinking about the old player in the middle of a game.

Names up in the rafters and statues are more than enough. All this “muh MY jersey number” is nonsensical.

Why should 9 be off limits but 5 available by Kiffin to give out? That is BS. Retire the numbers. Just like 20

Do not forgett about the true NIL deals for JD5. Video games, LSU marketing, etc. smart move

One went 16-0 and won a national championship.

Pretty easy to see why

They are both Heisman Trophy winners.

There is nothing smart about it. A player can’t own a number and doesn't own the LSU brand.

As another poster joked in the main thread, maybe if he paid millions of dollars to own the #5 in LSU colors then he could have a claim.

As it stands he just borrowed the number and jersey from LSU.

He’s from California where usc retires every heisman winner. 8.

He should’ve went his bitch arse there and been the 3rd qb and irrelevant today if it matters that much.

I see a possible future where jersey numbers like 1043 will become necessary…

No.

Players will get those numbers. It's stupid to be like "OMG another player got that number?"

The entire thing is a bad look. I don't blame Jayden for it.

How about just stop retiring numbers.

It's not necessary and you can avoid this whining about it. Really disappointed in Daniels here. Burrow does not seem like a guy who would care if 9 was issued. I thought Daniels was carefree as well. Must be his family making a stink about it, but he could tell them to stop.

frick off. LSU football isn’t going to be held hostage by a former player.

Exactly. Tebow was one of the biggest deals in College football ever.

Spurrier made Florida un-retire his number and they've smartly chosen to not retire any more numbers. By not retiring numbers you avoid players caring about it later. It seems so selfish for a player to publicly make a stink about another player wearing the same number. What are we doing here?

Alabama did not retire Young, Smith, Henry, or Ingram's number
Oklahoma did not retire Murray, Mayfield, or Bradford
Oregon did not retire Mariota's number

A&M never retired Manziel's number, but they have retired one other Heisman winner.

Florida State did not retire Winston's number, but they retired his jersey.
"Florida State University retired Jameis Winston's No. 5 jersey, not his number. FSU stopped retiring actual player numbers in 1997 and transitioned to retiring jerseys. His jersey was officially retired during a ceremony on November 18, 2023."

This is where LSU is I think and should stay.

So?

That’s pretty much all Jayden has. Burrow has a lot more. You think schools retire numbers for every Heisman winner?

Places like USC wouldn’t have numbers left

Probably his agent or lawyer. They're usually the ones that plant these seeds. The irony here is this is an issue because supposedly they're concerned for his legacy, and now he'll forever be known as a whiny bitch.
