There over 100 players on the team. You can't just stop giving numbers. Notre Dame has had 7 Heisman winners. None officially retired. 3 not being used.

I'd retire 9 simply because he was the greatest ever and won a title 15-0. 5 won the Heisman and that's it, really disappointing that Jayden feels entitled. this is all so silly, but that's this generation. Sad

I don't like the idea of retiring numbers. Some of these super stars are not coming to your school if they can't get the number they've always had.

Yea don’t retire numbers, we should be putting up a ring of honor. You can have your name and jersey in the stadium forever and new kids can wear the number.
And if we really want to retire a number that should be saved for someone that dies young while here or near after their time here and those that win the top award and a title. Jayden fits neither.

No, its a team sport and have 105 players you can't just retire Heisman trophy winners. Go look at Bama, Florida, and many others. #9 is different than number 5 and not acknowledging that is completely ignorant and you lose all credibility.
Now again this situation is stupid and Kelly and JD5's camp are the ones to blame. I pray Pickett balls out this year...

Everyone is looking at this all wrong. LSU is the brand and the player is part of the LSU brand. JD5 is part of LSU's history. He is "in the books" so to speak. His accomplishments while at LSU, LIKE ALL OTHER NATIONAL AWARD WINNERS, are immortalized all over the football complex and throughout the LSU media.
How can they keep LSU from using his Name, Image and Likeness when he is woven into the history of LSU. Is LSU not allowed to discuss the history of players accomplishments while at the school?
So for LSU to comply with this request, they will have to remove all recognition to the player. All recognition of the awards he won would have to be removed from the campus.
