LINK: CFB discusses moving to Spring

quote:

According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, one possibility being discussed around the NCAA is playing the season in spring 2021. The idea, which has reportedly been talked about by coaches and administrators, would allow teams more time to prepare for a potential season.

Poster on SEC rant that claims to have media connections says plan would be:

2020 season
-February 2021 kickoff
-13 week full season to end in May

2021 season
-2021 season kickoff pushed to November and would go thru March 2022

2022 season
-2022 season all back to normal fall schedules

Chris Fowler saying it may be Spring kickoff...

LINK: Fowler “informed speculation”

quote:

“There is a third scenario that’s gaining momentum, which may sound preposterous on the surface but I think a lot of reasonable people feel like it might be the most prudent course of action, and that is football in the spring,” Fowler added. “Beginning some point in February, getting into March, April, May, maybe have the postseason in June. That would have to be reshuffled a bit, it would be bizarre, it would wreak havoc on some other sports in that time of year, but to avoid the financial disaster of having no football in the academic year, I think it might be a fallback position.”

LINK: CFB leaders say no football if schools are closed to students
quote:

Nothing that came out of Wednesday's conference call between Vice President Mike Pence and the College Football Playoff management committee changes the bottom line for this fall: If colleges and universities aren’t open to students, it will be very difficult for the season to start on time.

You really think players would go for this with an nfl season with a quick turnaround
NFL is not changing their draft from April
A lot of jr and sr might skip the season and declare for draft
Only way this works is if nfl does something similar
But then it backs up to your next season

2021 season not starting until November seems excessive.

While I agree that it is a mess, I'd rather that mess to no football.

Probably would reverse global warming since the Gods don’t like to make it easy on us to play football. Be blizzards all over the place in February. And March.

I can see why the media would like it They could get the NFL over or almost over and football 7-8 months a year on the weekends.

America follows such a heard mentality. All golf majors just moved to August, September, and November. I really think in a month most will think tiger stadium will be packed this fall. Not saying it’s the right thing to do or the script won’t flip again, but just watch.

Getting a whole football team ready to play is much more cumbersome than a single golfer being responsible for preparing for a major.

If LSU goes online for summer classes like a lot of schools are, i tend to think that no one is even going to be allowed on campus until the fall semester, if that

how do you prepare a football team to play a game that way?

This is where I’m at. Could the conferences agree to an abbreviated schedule? Maybe start in late September and play conference games only.

Tons of revenue being given up in that scenario but a lot less than playing games with no fans.

If this happens, it’s the beginning of the end of cfb as we know it.

Imagine how PO'd Hoops HCs would be to see their attendance and interest totally cannibalized by going head-to-head for limited entertainment dollars and hours of fans lives..

Let alone, also scheduling conflicts, and demand upon Ath Depts personnel. It may not be as big a problem for P5 Giants(like LSU), but would really hurt plenty of other schools.

Would feel very contractually forced in order to just get one's league tv & gate/concession dinero..not very organic.

Just Say No!
