I keep seeing blanket statements about recruiting.
Two questions.
How is recruiting the problem when Kelly has finished one class and signed one full class?
What is the concern going forward? We have a top ten class at the moment and should finish there. Is it because we aren’t hitting every target?

The concern is the two best players in the state at massive positions of need arent coming here.
We are “top 10” today gut will finish in the teens. Not exactly a great place for his first full recruiting cycle.

O was a good D-line coach , period .

Two things: 1. NIL. Everyone acts like schools weren’t paying for recruits before NIL remember the Bama Bagman? NIL did increase the amount you had to pay players because it is out in the open.
2. The only thing O was interested in recruiting after 2019 was MILFs.

Its not a great class and we appear to be losing ground.
It would be less of an issue if the portal pickups weren't primarily very average producers. But the recruiting across the board is not elite.

The other two goofballs didn't have to deal with NIL and O briefly had to deal with the portal.
Finally many posters on this board are starting to get it. No coach at LSU will be great in recruiting as long as NIL exist in its current state. They just don’t have the financial backing to compete with some schools.

He was a much better recruiter than DL coach.
He was like Les in that he didn't comprehend the modern game. O was not intelligent and when DL needs changed, he was left behind.

most teams aren’t built on their last 2 classes
the issue goes back to the 2020 and 2021 classes.

True-but he left nothing in the cupboard so who cares? Say what you will about Miles but the personnel was in place to build on. C

Maybe LSU and BR has declined to a point where elite players not want to come here.

Recruiting is a problem. We are 18 months removed from starting a wr at qb for a bowl game. The cupboard was bare, so Kelly gets a pass for probably 3 season to get it re stocked with depth.
But the defensive issues I maintain are not a recruiting problem. We are poorly coached. Recruiting isn’t gonna fix poor tackling and missed assignments. And that’s not a recruiting issue.

People don’t want to admit it but people are stealing LSU recruits left and right
Our 5 star WR that’s been committed to us was in Austin yesterday for his second game in 3 weeks and will be at the Red River game because he lives in Dallas
That never use to happen

Damone Clark
Just to name a few, all committed to O

5 Star players from Out of State de-committing has happened a lot long before this staff took over.
WR is the last position im worried about. Do people even watch CFB and see the WR's across the nation from LA showing out?

Posted in another thread but since this is a recruiting thread will ask here too.
Here is my question about NIL and recruiting. It is not a defense if Kelly, just a question.
How much control does the HC have now with NIL? How can the coach get recruits paid and signed, if other schools have more resources and can pay more than we can?
People keep talking about poor recruiting. And while it may be subpar, how much can the head coach really control that? Seems like a lot of it beyond what he can control.
If I’m wrong, and may very well be, can someone more in touch with recruiting explain how it really works

He was very successful with that though.

With the portal wide open, they sure are. Were getting very average players through the portal.

I do understand that 1 out of 10 transfers *might* become Burrow or Tommy Tanks in baseball but, overall, if we our transferring in starters then that IS a sign of poor recruiting and development. That should be “in case of emergency break glass” maneuver.
