Recruiting is the problem
Posted by TDsngumbo

When Brian Kelly was hired, we all said he would win a title here because the last two goofballs did. The difference is the last two goofballs maintained the LSU standard of recruiting and Brian Kelly is NOT.
I fear if Kelly is here for five years, recruiting will be subpar and LSU will sink into the mediocrity we all feared and falsely bitched about for the past ten years and we may have to completely rebuild the program from the ground up when his replacement arrives, resulting in a very long title drought.
Tell me I’m being an overly dramatic little bitch here. I’m overreacting, right?

Ed did not maintain the LSU standard of recruiting, his classes from 2018 on were dreadful and put the program in the hole it’s currently trying to be dug out from.
This can't be stated enough.
O was a disaster.

The portal is a bigger issue. We're bringing in FCS type talent for the most part.

As a positional coach being directed by an intelligent person.
As the head coach? He was not anywhere near great.

Keep saying it and maybe time will reverse and it will come true.

Well, you’re probably not wrong but to be fair, NIL is a new day and the skill sets of recruiters no longer matter much. Money is all that matters. You will still get the occasional Weeks brothers who want to play for LSU but by and large, they will play for Benjamin Franklin. The transfer portal has largely destroyed that dynamic as well. The football we loved in our youth is gone.

BK is looking like a disaster now. Just with less national championships than O.

by ThrowITdeepO was a great recruiter.
His best class - production wise was ranked 15th
His higher ranked classes sucked and a bunch of LA guys he passed are playing well elsewhere

He was an overreaction to coach O. We needed some professionalism put in place not at the expense of killing the energy of the program.
The whole operation is flat. Recruiting. Fan support. Game day experience.
Very Midwest. Boring as frick.

You’re overreacting
Most of our best players are from the 2022-23 recruiting/portal classes that have remaining eligibility.
2024 being ranked 10th or whatever right now is being overblown, with the exception of the DL holes. The secondary class is very strong and we have some highly elite trait offensive players on board. If we can get some DL, I’ll be very happy with this class, whatever it’s ranked.

His first class was ranked 5th and he’s had to build the program from bottom up

Damone is dead right. How could you possibly make this argument? Orgeron might have been good at recruiting specific targets, but he was terrible at picking the targets. He left us with 39 scholarship players. How is that maintaining the LSU standard?

This is 100% false

Even schools like UT have ELITE recruiters and have their recruiting organized and directed by an elite recruiting mind (our very own Brandon Harris). The money helps, for sure, but it's still by and large the same recruiting game for 99% of recruits.
Kelly is not an elite recruiter.
Kelly assembled a staff lacking elite recruiters (Frank is not the Frank of the mid-00s). Our one elite guy is now in the NFL and our top-level recruiting fell off a cliff once he left.
