Well, this is a pleasant surprise. Did not expect Rece, of all people, to talk common sense.

Surprisingly well thought out and I agree with him on all points, I don't believe these players(any of them, our team, any team) should be in college sports.

However, the way the NCAA bungled this, how can you draw a line at these guys exactly? It's absurd, there are some amateur athletes in the NCAA, but they are playing alongside any definition of the word professionals.

The line is so blurry, and it's going to be pretty hard to fix that.

So now that’s two of their biggest talking heads on Reece and Greenberg very clearly laying out how ridiculous this is when you get past all the fan emotion.

this is the point everyone is making. LSU (and the other schools ) the sample size is tiny and no one is asking for anything outside of this 43 players , screwed by the NCAA to be eligible.

When even Rece Davis can admit to the absurdity of the situation without slanting it against LSU, you know it’s gone off the rails!

I mean it is absurd. Of course no-one wants actual NFL players to come back to college.

What happened here is the NCAA's buffoonery has screwed a heap of student athletes out of thousands if not millions. Of course they are going to take this to court. This isn't the USSR you get to have your day in court. And if they can play why the hell wouldn't LSU take them?

The problem is the line can be drawn, but its not being drawn the same in each instant.

A kid goes into the draft, does not get drafted, goes to minicamp and is paid to attend (even if it is just travel, room and board they are paid), and then doesn't cut it, made a decision to try to become a pro.

The kid that went through the same scenario, except signed a contract while injured that earned them nothing and actually less than the kid going to minicamps, is somehow ineligible eventhough he did not practice at all.

Then you have a kid like Wright, that made it to training camp, but injury prevented him playing and decided to come back. He's not a pro player, and it is stupid to call him one when he has never played a down as an NFL player.

Then having European pros treated differently is absurd. You either got paid to play a sport (Pro) or you didn't (amateur). It's pretty simple.

As long as they blur these lines, pick and choose at random which legal injunctions to fight (see Chambliss hypocrisy), then they are making it worse.

That is the issue. They are digging the hole deeper and blurring the lines more with this mess.

Without any context at all, I don't think any player who signs an NFL contract should be allowed back in college. I can acknowledge the NCAA completely botched this and these guys got screwed, but that happens in life someimtes.

But...

I said "without any context." Once you add the context that Ole Miss is playing a player this season that the NCAA has deemed ineligible, all that goes out the window. Ole Miss set the precedent, LSU is just following the Ole Miss blueprint.

THere are no levels to ineligible status, you either are or are not ineligible. If Chambliss can play, I'm all for the 2 dudes playing at LSU. Ole Miss opened the floodgates, we're just following their lead.

At least he is being consistent with LSU. He said similar things about Bediako at Bama

Why does ESPN have a pic of it as "LSU Lawsuit". It wasn't. It was the players lawsuit. Also, says judge allowed Players to play for LSU. Again, he allowed all the players to play for SEC schools...not just LSU. It is absurd.

This is my point exactly.

Why wasn’t the line drawn at the point of attending a rookie minicamp or even declaring for the NFL draft. That is a clear cut attempt to become a pro and was/is a bright line distinction.

The Texas player attended 2 different rookie mini camps and started this whole thing with the SEC not batting an eye.

You either cut all of them or make a Class of 2022 exception for all of them. You cannot draw an arbitrary line that allows everyone but these 2 players back because they signed inconsequential contracts BEFORE the 5 for 5 was even a thing

And that is what NIL did, make the 'student-athlete' into a professional. Nobody likes it, except the players coming out of high school, their attorneys or the people who are the handlers facilitating everything, and the coaches who find willing boosters to pony up.

But fans don't like it. I sure don't. Remember when a coach couldn't give a player a ride or buy a player a hamburger? Everyone was saying that players needed to get given a stipend, not millions of dollars. The NCAA fricked this up. The genie is out of the bottle and that hard line between professionalism and amateurism is faint, squiggly and much more difficult to define, now, thanks to the ineptitude of the NCAA and guys like Sankey want to pretend the present, real-life consequences of the actions of others to capitalize on those mistakes are somebody else's problem and not theirs. They are trying to 'toe-the-line' for how things were, not for what currently is.

The line you mentioned is also arbitrary.

It's going to be arbitrary no matter what, I see no issue with signing an NFL contract being the line.

The better example to use is Trinidad Chambliss. He set the precedent for ineligible players to return to play in the SEC with a court order. Any team, or the SEC, not threatening fines or expulsion over Ole Miss for that, then they have no leg to stand on when LSU tries to play ineligible players.

There's no difference, ineligible is ineligible.

I was dead wrong about Rece. He's one of the few talking heads who is looking at this with a fair and objective viewpoint. That's good, because everybody will be watching Gameday on Saturday and he'll likely be saying the same thing then.

Well really bama did and Rece is the first national head I’ve seen bring that up

But point remains yes the SEC has repeatedly shown they back down from injunctions but with us not only are they not conceding, they fricking sued us.

Sankey is a piece of shite
