IDK about 17 points, but:
With Aranda and the DL depth, it's much more likely than not, and--
Correct that it's a must see with the receivers, QB, and OL, but every bit of the potential is there. OL does have some experience, WR's have the physical measurables, and the QB has shown the potential intelligence and physical ability.
If things pan out offensively even at about half and half, and the D does what we know it can do, we're a team to make national noise this year.

I was pointing out that they will be starters for LSU
Again outside of Giles and Fehoko we don't know if the other 2 will start. Burrow probably will, but if Alexander starts that's not a good thing. He was not even a starter at Stanford, hes not that good. So if he starts it speaks more to our lack of depth and talent outside of greedy than anything else.

The strength of Miami is they are also big, physical and fast especially on defense. Defense is as much their strength going in as LSU's. First game mistakes by both teams. Toss up in my view until I see if we can even move the ball.

Can I assume you have everything you own bet on this game?
Opener on a neutral field. My loyalty says LSU in a game decided by less than three but my loyalty has never been a good indicator of outcomes.
This is going to be a tough and revealing opening game.
I hope you're right but I don't see either team dominating the other. Close game.

Gotta love these late June posts on the rant about an OOC opener. Same song and dance for the past 10 years.
- Discredit a non-SEC team because they're not in the SEC... check
- Passing game will be much improved... check
- Predicting a blowout of a top 10 ranked team... check
- Refer to recruiting success... check
- Predictions of ridiculous stat lines from players that haven't played a down yet... check
- Mention opposing teams failures from the previous season while downplaying LSU's blunders from past season... check
Don't change Rant.

why on the Rant do you guys do this over the top stuff
no I am not placing a bet - I do have the ban bet going on 3-0 = 12-0
This is what I am seeing on June 22 - before game day it might go up to 24 or come down to 7

quote:17 point win?? Come on, you need to temper the expectations a little bit and just hope for a win period. Miami is no slouch and can easily beat us by 17 if things don't go right.

Cliff, do you realize you said 17 point win, but then the scores you post, none add up to a 17 point margin.
Go get Captain Tomato Gumbo another cup of coffee and step away from the keyboard!

I think some of y'all are giving that Miami front 7 way too much credit. They lost quite a bit of production. It wouldn't surprise me to see CEH go over 100 yards rushing in that game. I say we win 27-17

I simply think the Tigers are better than MIAMI!

Why is this an over the top question to ask?
Either you truly believe LSU will win by 17 or you don't.

DL - front 7 of LSU is enough for me to pick LSU to win this game
This is from a Miami Hurricane's article on the game.

LSU on Defense
This is where LSU is going to be tough to beat. Consistently known as a defensive team, the Tigers will be tough to throw and run on this year, even with pass-rush specialist Arden Key and corners Donte Jackson and Kevin Tolliver leaving for the pros.
Rashard Lawrence, Breiden Fehoko and Ed Alexander are strong interior presences along the D-line and should be expected to be tough to run on. Stand-up rusher K’Lavon Chaisson is the real x-factor up front, a four-star in 2017 who has the mix of speed and power to be a dynamic edge player in his first year as a full-time starter.
At Linebacker, Junior Devin White leads the way after an impressive 2017. White led the team in tackles last season and has the athleticism to be an asset in pass coverage. He still needs to improve though and could stand to be more patient against the run. The spot next to him is open, where sophomores Jacob Phillips and Tyler Taylor are expected to compete for it.
The best player on this LSU defense is, without question, Cornerback Andraez “Greedy” Williams. Living up to his name, Williams is a long, lithe corner with a nose for the ball. He was an All-American last year, grabbed six interceptions and should be expected to lock down the offense’s primary receiver.

Only thing I disagree with them about is Greedy and White. Both are great but I think white is the better player. He also has a bigger impact on the game because of how much hes asked to do and excels in all phases of the game.

Reasons why I think we win
Physical SEC football OL and DL - I know we need to see the OL do it but only time will help with that
DL - front 7 of LSU is enough for me to pick LSU to win this game
Passing game - another need to see but I think we will see it / this is the Tiger team that will pass to set-up the running game
QB play - another need to see - Joe wins the QB job and gives LSU what it needs with leadership and talent
I expect to see a top 5 D open against Miami and like I said - this one point should be enough to win the game - a passing game with good balance with a rushing attack gives LSU a 17 point win.
Oh, okay

Before the competent QN battle, my biggest question was how are we going to move the football should we get down by 2 scores.
After JB committed here, and a little reassurance that their will be solid QB competition, I feel confident in our ability to move the football. Hopefully, Ensminger can focus less on QB development and more on putting together a solid game strategy.

They ran the table to 8-0 before they played a single ranked team then beat a decent Virginia Tech team and an always overrated Notre Dame team that also hadn’t beaten anyone else.
You mean that same Notre Dame team that beat LSU in the bowl?
We can't sleep on Miami. This will be a tough game, regardless of what some on this board think. I do believe we win, but it won't be a cake walk. Richt is a damn good coach and will have his team ready to play. Also, Miami's D is going to be stout. Points are going to be at a premium in this game.

yep - it's a margin call
I do well with 6th grade math
17 points for me is 14 to 21 points
I see them getting 1 to 3 FG's with maybe 1 TD
I see us with about 2 FG's and 3 TD's
It's June 22nd ball park stuff - that's all
21-6 - 15 point spread about right
It would not shock me to see something like 34 to 13
We don't know what to expect because we have no idea how quick Joe will click with what E gives him and how he gets comfortable with his new set of WR's.
I am on the up-side and I know that is not something many of you can deal with.
Like the coat of the First Lady yesterday - I really don't care!

Miami’s D will be no slouch this year. They have 2 or 3 projected first rounders.
They lost their Dline. Gerald Willis (Landon Collins brother) is supposed to be their best returning lineman and I don't think he has ever played for them since being kicked out of UF.
quote:
They return all three starting LBs, three starting DBs and a fourth in Trajan Brandy who started three games in 2017, plus edge-rusher Joe Jackson. The DL was devastated by graduation and early departure, and they also lost star DL coach Craig Kuligowksi, who built a reputation of churning out NFL pass-rushers at Missouri. Nevertheless, this is a talented and experienced unit that Manny Diaz is coordinating.
In a battle of established defenses vs. retooling offenses, does Miami have the edge over LSU?
