I think some of y'all are giving that Miami front 7 way too much credit. They lost quite a bit of production. It wouldn't surprise me to see CEH go over 100 yards rushing in that game. I say we win 27-17
CEH and the freshmen beast that is coming in - don't know anything about him other than the video I watched - he looks like between the tackle power that we will need on 2 yards out!
Love the idea of 27-17 - Tigers win

Why is this an over the top question to ask?
just the bet question like If you really believe this put money on the table
fact is I don't really believe it - I hope I am right and with the football wisdom that I have gained in Tigerland over 50 years I know what I expect
right now I know what I expect but does not equal what I will see
the reasoning behind the 3-0 ban bet is that if we beat Miami on the road (neutral site) and Auburn on the road we are set to get better before MSU/Georgia/Bama
The odds of LSU beating all 3 of these teams at home are long but I am ready to go out there
The team will be very high after coming back after beating Auburn!
We shall see want we

What was it then?
Pretty sure we still have the same head coach if it was that.
This is from an article talking about all of the players missing for the Ole Miss game that was upcoming at the time. The part about LaCouture having to play every snap was for the Syracuse game which was between the MSU and Troy games.
quote:
Depth is a lingering issue for the Tigers this season. At one point during LSU's loss at Mississippi State, Orgeron had four defensive linemen available for three D-line positions.
quote:
Earlier this season, defensive end Christian LaCouture played every snap of a game. Starting defensive end Rashard Lawrence missed three of the first five games with an ankle injury, and a broken finger prevented Alexander from playing in two games.
All of the above is in this one article - AND Earlier this season, defensive end Christian LaCouture played every snap of a game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think rozier is good enough to beat us and I think we win by double digits.

The LSU talent is there, but I will be a skeptic until I see better coaching. The loss to ND in the bowl game was due to being out-coached, pure and simple.
This was coaching "pure and simple" ????? Two guys could not bring down the WR and it is coaching???

We can't sleep on Miami. This will be a tough game, regardless of what some on this board think. I do believe we win, but it won't be a cake walk. Richt is a damn good coach and will have his team ready to play. Also, Miami's D is going to be stout. Points are going to be at a premium in this game.
I completely agree and even said pretty much the same thing in my post. Not sleeping on them at all.
I just make a clear distinction between Miami and the big 3 SEC opponents that we play. Miami isn’t on that level, not even close actually.
When all the tough schedule talk started there was this idea that there were 4 brutal opponents. Miami isn’t that. They are a borderline top 10 team because of their brand and the excitement of a team of the rise after a 10 win season under a good new coach.
But the bottom line is they were exposed by the only two elite teams they played. They will likely win 10 games again because their schedule is absolute garbage but they probably fall back to the 15-20 range team that they actually are.
We should actually be ranked very similarly to them and the only reason we aren’t is the perception of our coach versus theirs, their momentum versus ours, and the hesitation to put stock in the unknown that is Burrow.
If E is the OC O thinks he is, he should have no problem putting together a balanced and effective attack to take advantage of his already developed skill set. He is a senior. He has all the physical tools. He’s had three years learning under probably the best QB coach in the country.
All we have been missing for a decade has been a capable QB and balanced offensive philosophy. There is absolutely no reason this isn’t the year we’ve all been waiting for.
A NY6 Bowl game should be the absolute goal this year and anything less will be a failure. Without a win against Miami that goal becomes extremely unlikely.
I look at this game a lot like the Wisconsin game was for Miles. An early test that will tell us everything we need to know. If the offense is better, we’ll know right away. If it isn’t, it never will be.
Win, or O is in serious trouble and things could get very ugly as the season goes on.
My biggest fear, and imo the most likely scenario, is we beat Miami but then lose to the Big 3 of the SEC to finish 9-3 again. That would be a mediocre season but once again O would hang his hat on the Miami win like he did the Auburn game last year.
If his hand picked OC and staff and gift of a DC and QB can’t get a win over Miami and 1 of the big 3 while avoiding letdowns against the lesser SEC and OOC competition to get to 10-2 then I just don’t see any reason to think he will the next year either with the rest of the SEC improving under their new coaches.

I think we win. But Mark Richt has more experience as a HC in the SEC than O.
I don’t think Richt has forgotten physical play nor decided “well I’m in the ACC to hell with being physical.”
Again we win, but it’s bs to suggest Miami or Richt are soft.

booting 27 of 29 this past season and all 67 extra-point attempts to claim the 2017 Fred Mitchell Award. Connor Culp and walk-on Jack Gonsoulin are a combined 15-of-24 this season, a 62.5 percent make rate that's the lowest in 12 years. Nationally, the mark ranks 103rd. LSU is one of just five Power 5 conference teams with nine or more missed field goals this season.
In 2017, Tracy was 67-of-67 on his extra points and 27-of-29 on his field goals this season. His only misses were from 45 and 52 yards and he had a long of 53. Culp finished the season 11-of-15 on field goals and Gonsoulin went 4-of-9. The two combined to miss five field goals in LSU's final three games. Culp also missed three extra points this season.
"If there's a great kicker out there, we're going to recruit him," Orgeron said.

Pure and simple is probably a stretch, but IMO it was bad coaching and I said it when they kicked the FG. With the relative ease that ND scored, it seemed pretty obvious to me that the defense was gassed. I definitely didn't feel comfortable with having to hold them with less than a TD lead.
Was it coaching that caused the missed tackles? Of course not, but IMO it wasn't a good evaluation of the situation.

Probably more relieved that LSU was able to go out and get players that are possibly better than the ones that were already on the roster.

but if Alexander starts that's not a good thing. He was not even a starter at Stanford, hes not that good.
Well Greedy Williams and Devin White have been at LSU two years and both of them got their first starts last season. According to your logic they are not that good either.
How many games did DJ Chark start at LSU before his senior season? He's just not that good. The NFL team that drafted him should have consulted you before making their huge mistake.

So if he starts it speaks more to our lack of depth and talent outside of greedy than anything else.
Could be that he is healthy again. He has track speed and good experience. More experience than DJ Chark had before he started at LSU. Maybe Corey Raymond is a better DB coach than the guy at Stanford. OR it could just speak that the young guys are not ready to start just yet.

I agree he may be the most important, but he was also a D2 kicker. I hope he excels but we have no way of knowing until the season. He may not even win the job.

That is not by my logic. That is you making a leap. A true sophomore starting and a redshirt freshmen starting for the first time is entirely different than a senior. Also DJ Chark started as a junior and had a good season before he improved and had a breakout senior year. White was highly recruited and played a lot as a freshmen and made an impact. Go back and watch Stanford games Alexander was not a big contributor in his time there.

Some people in this thread obviously don't follow college football.
Google is a cool thing to use to avoid removing the doubt of being totally unaware but some refuse to do so.

In your opinion, how is this any different than people saying how good the LSU offense is going to be?
Or how is that different than Greedy and White being first year starters last year or Alexander this year?

100%
Although I do disagree on our potential SEC record. There's a very real chance we drop one between Florida and A&M. Talent wise, they're both pretty comparable to LSU. The difference lies in the HCs. Can O go in to the Swamp or College Station and pull a win against Mullen or Fisher? We already know Bama, UGA, and Auburn are likely losses. Anyone who denies that simply isn't looking at this team with any objectivity what so ever. If O can manage a NY6 bowl this season, it will be an insane win for the program as a whole and he would deserve a 3rd season for it.

I'm not going to turn this into the NG FG thread. But, LSU had already run two plays from within the ND 1 in the 1st half and failed to score.
1st and Goal at ND 10
(10:00 - 2nd) Darrel Williams run for 9 yds to the NDame 1
2nd and Goal at ND 1
(9:20 - 2nd) Darrel Williams run for no gain to the NDame 1
3rd and Goal at ND 1
(8:29 - 2nd) Danny Etling run for no gain to the NDame 1
play
4th and Goal at ND 1
(7:59 - 2nd) LSU Penalty, False Start (Tory Carter) to the NDame 6
On the drive that produced the FG LSU had the ball for almost 6 minutes of GAME CLOCK. Start of drive 7:49 and FG kicked at 2:03. That's game clock - real time probably at least double. That is time for the defense to rest.
On this drive LSU ran a play from inside the ND three yard line and did not score.
1st and Goal at ND 10
(3:07 - 4th) Derrius Guice run for 1 yd to the NDame 9
2nd and Goal at ND 9
(2:26 - 4th) Derrius Guice run for 6 yds to the NDame 3
(2:25 - 4th) Timeout NOTRE DAME, clock 02:25
3rd and Goal at ND 3
(2:07 - 4th) Danny Etling pass complete to Derrius Guice for 2 yds to the NDame 1
(2:07 - 4th) Timeout NOTRE DAME, clock 02:07
That was 3 plays in the game from inside the ND 3 yard line with no score.
Your opinion may be correct and is definitely more valid in hindsight. But at the time with what had already been done in the game I think the majority of coaches (pro, college, high school) would have taken the points. There are only three things that could happen and two are acceptable. TD by ND with 2:03 which at the time was no given. A FG by ND for OT which is more likely than a TD but not a given. No score and a win by LSU.
Posted on 6/22/18 at 11:32 am to Tiger Ree
This is all obviously opinion based and if I studied football every waking minute of my life, Orgeron would still know more football than me. I just think that I would rather pin them deep if you don't make it. I think you're playing probabilities at that point and if they are inside the 3, they are going to be extremely conservative.
You may be correct about the defense as well. I just remember saying "they just went down the field on you, go for it. It's an exbibitiion."
