John Emery is focused totally on academics at moment, says head coach Brian Kelly. Emery has some marks to hit

Armoni Goodwin won’t be back until fall camp

WLL Radio:
quote:

John Emery and Armoni Goodwin, who didn't work out at practice today: "They're working through the injuries that they suffered."

They're with the team and progressing. Goodwin isn't expected back until full camp starts

Glen West:
quote:

Brian Kelly says Josh Williams is the closest running back to returning from injury.

Armoni Goodwin will be back for fall camp.

Says Trey Holly is getting a lot of work.

What a rollercoaster career for him. Hope he explodes in 2023 and makes it to the NFL. Good luck TIGER!

At this point Emory is just hurting himself. The RB room is stacked so he’s just missing out on reps. It’s his own damn fault. Bring on Trey Holly.

Really hope one of the freshman emerge, because we’re going to need to rely on one of them. Can’t rely on Emery or Goodwin. This much is known.

It's been (almost) 5 years now. At this point Emery is what he is. A highly recruited player that is capable of a few big flashes here and there, but not someone the team can rely on to (a) carry the bulk of the load at RB, and (b) be available to play every game. He'll still give you those great moments like he had vs. Alabama and Auburn...which are necessary to win games. But holding him out as a big reason LSU will have success this season is misplaced. While not spectacular, Williams has proven his reliability and consistency. He's your #1 back unless one of the freshmen break out.

It's best to just view any contribution from Emery as an added bonus, not something you count on from week to week.

At what point do they have to think about grabbing someone out of the portal?

It is amazing how a successful season can turn around perception. When pretty much this same thing happened with Emery under Orgeron, it was how bad the staff let Emery down. Now, rightfully so, the blame is on Emery.

I am not shilling for Orgeron here, just pointing out how similar situations can be viewed so differently.

I didn't see where Brian Kelly said that Emery was out for the entire Spring. Midterms are wrapping up this week, so maybe it is just Thursday and Friday he needs to miss.

In any case they should recruit Trae Hannibal to work out at rb when basketball ends. I have no doubt that guy could play. Too bad KJ's eligibility is up. Supposedly threw for 2400 yards in hs.

This injury/academic situation is not dire … but even a serviceable RB out of the portal might be necessary.
