The biggest issue with Dylan making great defensive plays is that he got such a great jump on the ball, he made balls that looked to be in the gap look like routine plays. While we had several CF's that made far more hightight plays than DC, he was a much better outfielder because he only had to dive/jump a few times because he got a better jump on the ball than any other outfielder we have every had, and we've had numerous great ones

Tre Morgan's play has to be number 1. But from a mechanics and pure difficulty Bregman's play to me is 2nd. First off, it is still impressive that he even got to the ball let alone make the spinning throw to get the runner out. I would put that 2.
Ray Wright's play while impressive especially with the impact with it being in the Omaha is not as impressive as Bregman's or Tre's play.

Given the stakes involved, gotta be Tre Morgan’s play at the plate.

The Jared Foster diving catch against A&M is better than the Dickinson/Milam play.
Leon Landry robbing that HR against UCI over the old Box's high tetanus-riddled fence is up there as well.

also Blair Barbier made a back handed play at 3rd with bases loaded in Championship game against Stanford in 2000 that gets overlooked because of Ray Wright's catch and the walkout win.
but that was a smooth play with a long throw.
Bases were loaded in the top of the 5th, LSU down 5-2. Saved at least one run on the throw itself.. the backhand pick saved at least two runs because that ball gets into the corner.. and then potentially even more runs because the inning continues. LSU doesn't win in 2000 if Barbier doesn't make that play.

quote: Jared Foster superman catch to save the game and end the worst inning ever at aTm is better than any except Trey Morgan in CWS. quote: The Josh Pearson leaping catch in left against UF in the 2023 CWS finals saved game 1 for us. Plays where you didnt have to dive, or you have to dive or jump because you read the ball poorly off the bat should not count on this list.
I thought I remember Pearson playing shallow and had to run straight back and make an awarkward leap to catch it. If anything I would say he read it perfectly.

I assume the one down vote is a fat finger.

Naw, he breaks in before having to retreat

Was waiting to see this. If you factor in Stakes it’s up there

This was the top LSU defensive play in history. Aggies had the bases JUICED in the bottom of the 9th! Jared Foster was Batman, Robin, Superman & Frankenstein -- all in one superhuman achievement

That Pearson catch was huge in the moment obviously but it was hardly more than a routine lineout. The other catches in this thread are several magnitudes more difficult.

2. Dickinson/Milam
Great play, I was there to see it, but not even top 5 all time

I feel obliged to add these:

That's one of the greatest catches in the history of all baseball, not just LSU.

What game was the 635279 double play?
Two rundowns with RF finishing off the runner at second? I think that was Laird as well.

I remember a diving Derek Helenihi stop at 3rd base against Texas maybe?

The Trey Morgan play is in a class by itself. It directly led to a National Championship.
I wouldn’t say that. It’s in the same class as Ray Wright’s catch, for the same reason.
