LSU has these types of players that declare every year that have no business leaving. Hope it works out for him.

You realize he could have declared last year & LSU successfully recruited him back, right?

Shelvin is showing a strong propensity to make really poor decisions. He will be a low draft pick, not play very long, and be out on the street broke with no degree. Sad because he could have been very successful with better decision making.

Nothing stopped players from sitting out a year before. What was the easy way out you are talking about?
If a player is truly opting out they are sitting out because of Covid staying in school and coming back next year.

He will definitely be first in line at the team meals

So, why would he come back to school and then opt out.
Don't you think he had a valid reason?

A lot will depend on how much he weighs. If he used his off time to gobble down Big Macs instead of working out he may be a day 3 pick. If he has himself in shape he will go pretty high.

He was badly out of shape coming in...he had a good year, and is now declining after sitting out...like a fricking moron.
Hell be a fat arse back in Crowley in no time.
Hes a quitter

I think it’s pretty clear he struggles with motivation given how hard it was to get him qualified and how hard O had to ride him to keep him eligible and at a reasonable weight. O has told the story about having to call his mom or grandma on him.

Wrong defense for him he would have been pushed out like apka
Playing well, in even limited time, would've helped his draft status more than what he chose to do: don't play at all, don't (probably) stay in shape and don't (probably) play in an "all star" game, practicing all week in front of NFL coaches.

He’s a great athlete from the neck down. That’s really all there is to it. He doesn’t have the want to or the work ethic to do more than the minimum to get in the league.

Because coming back to play well and show he can control his weight for a year would change the current narrative of him being a one year wonder who quit on his team. Earning a degree would be nice too.

Do you know this, or are you just hoping? Haven’t seen any real info on his condition.
When he opted out I assumed it was because he saw an opportunity to take ped’s for nine months. Could really boost his lifetime earnings. Pretty smart if he’s disciplined and has good advisors.

Man, I hate seeing missed opportunities. I know I’m looking at it with an adult’s mind, but I feel like this kid could have taken one more offseason and regular season, ate right, got in the 320-330 range and been a multi-millionaire. He’s physically gifted but seems to lack discipline. I hope he gets it together asap and has an NFL career.

Shelving made a terrible decision

Hope he had better sense in getting a degree

Only about 12-14 NFL teams run a 3-4 (using a NT) and several of those use hybrids where they switch up quite a bit. There aren't many roles for a true NT anymore - especially one north of 350. A 320lb NT can play a DT position at times. Not a 350 pounder. When is someone that big going to play? Goal line? Sure. But even first down is a passing down anymore and he just won't have the push to play. Nor will he have the speed the NFL wants today. He's about 10-20 years too late for his body type.

Cue the onslaught of messages from learned LSU football fans, who will crap all over a player for his "lack of ability" when he wants to leave early to go pro because they are pissed that he's not keeping that "lack of" ability in school to play on next year's team.

If he shows up to the combine in shape same effect.
Showing scheme versatility would have helped but he is who he is.
